Latest News
One subject will dominate the first part of our newsletter and that is the recent flooding throughout the North West and Cumbria. Firstly we would like to pass on our well wishes to all those affected by storm Desmond whether it be locally with the power cuts or further afield with extreme flooding. It has been a strange few days, with stories of local communities coming together in unity but also stories of looting, robberies and burglary. Our nearest neighbours at Morecambe suffered a break in on Saturday night, thieves opportunists as always and took advantage of the loss of power to smash their way into the professional shop. Local people have shown their disgust on social media and rightly so, in no way should this happen but to small businesses it can be particularly damaging. Along with Morecambe there are reports of up to 20 thefts including local pub Strawberry Gardens, more later on how me Linda and Ryan battled to keep our shop safe in the past few days. We hope to continue to have your support this Christmas, please pop in for presents and we will give you some free mulled wine and mince pies. If you can't get to us, use our click and collect service provided by foremost.

Project Clubfit
Last Friday Dave Hough and his team completed making the roof waterproof on our new simulator building; unbelievable timing in the circumstances that followed merely hours later. Inside the building we will be running dehumidifiers to rid the build of damp and a small bit of standing water that has accumulated in the past few weeks. Until we get fully installed everyone is welcome to pop their heads inside for a look. You will be surprised at how big the build is. Things sat slightly on the back burner due to Storm Desmond but that hasn't stopped the lads getting inside to start the plasterboard work on the ceiling and back portion of the room. The front area where our screen will go will be done differently to keep the area dark and manageable, whilst allowing any errant shots to be rebuffed on the sides. Exciting times.
The new chipping green is pretty much ready for turf as well, this will happen after Christmas and then things will move forward with the AstroTurf pitching area. The main thing we need for that to be installed is a period of dry weather... Good luck with that! We will continue to keep you up to date with things through our newsletters or why not pop in to see us for a chat!
A minute with the Coach (double edition)
We've never cancelled so many lessons due to inclement weather, it's frustrating in so many ways to have to keep putting off tuition but we both truly believe there isn't much point hitting a ball blankly into a net when working on technique. Ryan has been picking his lesson balls up by hand and I would be doing the same if we were doing more lessons! Rain stops play. Rain stops power. That's right. Without power you have no alarms and when you are as isolated as our golf club a golf shop packed with expensive equipment becomes a huge target. So we did what we had to do and stayed in the shop the last two nights (Sunday and Monday). This was a reaction to Morecambe's break in but also a needs must situation where we had to protect what felt like our livelihood. Funnily enough I didn't lose power once at home, yet Ryan did living merely a few streets away, don't ask me how it works.
So with a lot of candles, blankets, flashlights, a few beers, Blue the guard dog and a wedge by our side we stayed in the shop to protect it, leaving only for loo breaks and a your round the building. Believe me when I say it's a tense situation to be in, but as I said before we felt we were left with no other option. Thanks to Josh and Ashton for company Sunday and Nick Holmes for a visit last night. Power came on both mornings very early, but we waited until light before leaving as we still had no alarm system, we needed engineers to come out for that. Police were fully on board with our decision to stay on the premises and it feels good to know we may have thwarted any attacks on our livelihood.
From today (fingers crossed) it's business as normal, back to lessons and with your help and support we can get people out buying presents and in the Christmas spirit again. We will also offer support to anybody affected so please get in touch if you need a helping hand.
