First of all this week we would like to say a big thank you to all of you that visited us on Saturday in our opening of the Swing Lounge. Plenty of you turned up and took part in our Nearest the Pin challenge and with that we could donate a little money to the club's charities. Nick Holmes picked up a Titleist Vokey SM5 wedge for his 0.8 feet effort on our tough 130 yard par 3 over water at Harbour Town in the US, far cry from our wind, rainy cold climate here in the UK. We had a lot of positive comments and also took on board some feedback from those who popped by so we thank everyone for their comments. Later on in this week's newsletter you can check out some pictures if you haven't yet seen inside The Swing Lounge, as well as news on how to enter our Winter League and book a session in the following weeks. Also, a big thanks to Lancashire Golf for their flowers they sent in support of our new venture. This week it has been very busy, so please book in advance especially if you want an evening slot. As I type this at 9pm we have some guys in enjoying a round at St. Andrews with a few beers. In other news despite a bad week of weather and having to close the range (we expect to have it back open tomorrow) Dave has had his staff mowing greens today in a sign we could see spring creeping slowly into view! Linda has had her hands full in the shop with new arrivals helping me to get the stuff out on the shop floor, read on to find out more about our new arrivals and why we have extended our Sale from last weekend. Steve Fisher and Andy Wilson will be our resident crash test dummies, testing out the latest equipment as it arrives, this week will see a write up on the new PING G Series driver and the Titleist AP1 irons, read on to find out more.

  

Pro Shop Penny Raffle

Never ones to sit back and relax we have decided to launch a new penny raffle to run every two weeks giving you the chance to win some prizes for as a little as 1p. The premise is simple, we will be selling 300 raffle tickets with each ticket assigned a cost, ticket one will be 1p and ticket 300 will be £3. All you have to do is choose the amount of tickets you would like and then draw them at random. Every two weeks will see a new prize or set of prizes to give you a chance to win something for absolute peanuts. In our first draw we will be offering a Vokey wedge with 150 tickets available, meaning the most someone will pay for one ticket is £1.50. Sound good? Well you can enter in several ways, through the shop in person, or we can pick tickets for you over the phone or via social media. The Swing Lounge 

Check out some pics of The Swing Lounge in all it's glory with new additional signs to the outside coming in the next week and a brand new website being produced. Soon you will be able to book online at www.theswinglounge.co.uk, allowing you to see when the room is free and to pay online with minimal fuss. Pop up for a price leaflet, you can also check out the prices below and some of the sexy Swing Lounge pictures. We have big plans that have only just begun, including the Short Game Academy, The Swing Lounge and our business. Keep an eye out for news in the coming months.

Off Peak - Monday - Friday daytime, Monday and Tuesday evenings.
Peak - Wednesday - Friday evenings and weekends.

One player - Peak - £15 and Off Peak - £12.
Two players - Peak - £10 and Off Peak - £8.
Three players plus - Peak - £7 and Off Peak - £6.
HGC members get £2 OFF per person per hour. 

The Swing Lounge indoor Winter League

There is still time to enter our indoor Winter League. The concept is simple; you play eight courses over 10 weeks with a partner of your choice. The format is nine holes per course, Russian Stableford (bet you're intrigued) and your score goes into a League Table that we will publish every week. The cost is £40 per person and in association with Titleist we have prizes worth over £2,000 down to 10th position, first prize is a NEW Titleist 915 driver each! This is open to everyone, so feel free to enquire even if you don't have a handicap or if you aren't a member of Heysham. All you have to do is book a slot for all eight courses (included in your £40) to get your scores in before the end date of March. Click here or pop in to reserve a spot!

Short game academy

A couple of days good weather has given Dave and his team the opportunity to install the tee stations for the 35, 50 and 75 yard shots, ready for the addition of the astroturf surface. Also this week all the paths have been completed.

Heysham Golf Club Brick Legacy

The HGC brick idea has proven popular with members past and present, for only £59 you can have your name in gold letters at Heysham Golf Club forever - the only chance some of you will have of having your name in gold letters (sorry couldn't resist). Forms are available in the pro shop, behind the bar and also in the office. The last date for orders is Sunday, 14 February - perfect if you're stuck for a Valentine's Day present idea. All the money raised from these bricks are going towards the re-surfacing of pathways around the clubhouse and near the professional shop. Fish falls in love…

For the first week we were asked to test the PING G Vortec driver and Titleist AP1 irons. As can be seen from the picture one of us loved one of them more than other. Fish began with a warm up which resulted in a slight pull to his hamstring. After hitting a few balls with the driver, I thought Fish was going to pull something else with the groans of pleasure that were coming from his bay... "Oh my God this is amazing!"

As you may have guessed, Fish loved it. He said it was "Quite light but it went miles". He felt the accuracy he achieved was excellent and would have no hesitation in buying/recommending this club. I on the other hand was not over impressed. It looks good with it's matt black finish but I did not feel I had the control I would like. Most shots went to the right although not excessively. The loft can be adjusted but this was a little difficult at times to alter as it felt the head was stuck on the shaft.

Titleist AP1 irons available custom fitted at Clubfit Golf for £81.50 per club

In the last two years or so both of us have bought new irons and we both agreed we would swap ours for these. The look is fairly ordinary but the accuracy is unbelievable. Most mid to high handicappers that have used the range have probably had moments when they have hit or even cleared the fence alongside the 10th. Not with these irons. Even our mis-hits went straight. Distance was excellent and the ball flight was high… not sure if that is a good thing or not, but they felt solid and amazing to hit. Although we disagreed on the driver we had no such issues with these irons. As Fish said…"We had no knobs".
