Latest News
This week in the world of Clubfit Golf we will be supplying you with plenty of new equipment details, offers, an updated league table in the Swing Lounge, news on upcoming events and coaching, plus the return of Fish and Jockey's club reviews. To cap off the week I will be taking a few guys up to Silloth for a spot of golf ready for our big match next week in Portugal (more on that shortly). Luckily for me I have some new clubs from the lovely guys at Cobra Golf, including a new set of Forged irons, new hybrids and woods, and the new King F6 driver. Having tried a few with our trusted fitter Ryan, I actually came out best with the standard F6 driver, no bells and whistles with the stock shaft available, in stiff flex. This club is available in the shop for only £249, proving to myself that more expensive, isn't always best. Check out a little information on how that can ring true for you later in this newsletter. At Heysham we have our last Winter League this week, not quite the entry to spring as we remember, but a dry end to the week has let the course dry up. Keep checking the course information hotline every day as things change, or chat to us in the shop for up to date information.
Junior Coaching
This week i've also returned back to St Lukes Primary School in Skerton for my third week of coaching golf with years four and five. What a great school and hopefully I'm inspiring a new generation of Heysham members to come!
Members News
26 lads, four nights, three courses, two teams and one winner. The annual Ryder Cup match trip is here and this time we even have a trophy! Myself and Ryan will be Captaining two teams (Europe - Ryan, USA - Me) taking each other on in battle on the sunny climate of Portugal. Over five days we will playing golf at the Millenium and Laguna courses in Villamoura with a final day singles showdown at the Faldo Course. Needless to say where Heysham members go, booze will follow and this all-inclusive trip will be no different, travelling out on St.Patricks day with no golf until the Friday could make for some interesting golf. The lads are buzzing and we even have some shirts made up for the occasion by Puma complete with our logo and a rather funny name. Ian Lightbody our South African member can attest to that after the lads chose his name to be 'Oscar P'. The hotel equipped with darts boards, pool tables and table tennis will give us another much needed way to do battle, money may change hands, beer may be spilled but blood will not... except for Thursday night when Liverpool take on Manchester United. When United grab the victory I will be happy to give out free hugs to our scouse friends, Andy Elder may end up on 'Banged up abroad' if the result does go the way I anticipate. Poor Linda will be on her own a few days in the shop, our other staff member Chris will be helping out but feel free to pop in and listen to her moan about being on her own, it will keep her happy. Next week's newsletter will go out when we will be in Portugal, but for any updates follow us on Facebook for some pictures and maybe a story or two. I will try and make sure all 26 lads return, but it isn't a promise and I'm not signing any disclaimers.
Swing Lounge
Me and Linda witnessed a first, a member, who shall not be named as Terry Hoare went practicing on the driving range in preparation for his fourth Winter League course at Spanish Bay in the US. Terry was also so well prepared he actually had a tip sheet of each hole to take in with him, as I type this he is in there now with partner Chris Donaldson. Good luck lads! Another busy week for the lounge, this venture is proving popular and is such good fun, if you haven't had a go yet, you need to pull your finger out! Beer + Golf = Win. Just don't break anything in there please! Below is the updates of the Swing Lounge League top 10, we will post a full table on Facebook and don't panic if you are short of a few courses, the event won't finish until everyone has completed their eight rounds.

How many clubs?
After Mother Natures intervention curtailed testing we were able to return to club testing this week. Trevor left it to Ryan to pick the clubs. We met him at his training studio and thought he was going to give us the entire contents. This week we have tested five clubs. As you can see Fish was not over impressed. To achieve the same results as Fish when using these clubs it is important your footwear comes from Man at C&A as Fish forgot his golf shoes and tested in a pair of black slip ons. I had earlier in the day visited Ryan for an MOT on my swing. Needless to say, my swing failed and has now undergone some remodelling. It appears Doctor Done can work miracles with the poorest of candidates. I can however honestly say that was the best £35 I have ever spent on golf.
Benross HTX Driver 10.5° Regular Shaft
This driver is not adjustable. Of the two drivers we tested this was Fish's favourite. He said it felt solid at impact and was happy with the distance and accuracy he achieved. I on the other hand was not as impressed….maybe it was my FootJoy footwear or the remodelled swing. I did like the look of the driver and felt it went well and I was happy with the accuracy.

Benross HTX Type R Driver 10.5° Regular Shaft
This driver is adjustable. Fish didn't think this felt as sold at impact but said it was a nice club and would be happy to use it for a round. The look and accuracy were very similar to the other druiver and for me this was similar a similar club to the first and I would be happy to use either club.

Benross HTX 3-wood
Fish has an earlier model of this club in his bag. He felt this model compared favourable to his own but would not upgrade as the difference was minimal, but he would recommend this to anyone looking for a new 3-wood. I liked this club and felt I had really good control. If I was looking to buy a new 3-wood I would certainly consider this.

PING G 7-iron one regular and one stiff shaft
Fish preferred a stiff shaft... He felt it went better than the regular but liked both clubs a lot. For me both clubs felt really good. I appeared to get good distance and was impressed with how straight they went.

Clubfit Section
This week we carried out a fitting on a golfer looking to start taking the game seriously, but not wanting to spend a bucket load doing so. Understandable considering the costs of golf equipment. What he did was what we ask all our "clubfitees" to do, he gave us a budget. The budget in question was £500 - £550. Some will understand this may not give you a lot to go on, you may get some irons for this and with some brands you may get a couple of fairway woods. But we do a couple brands who offer full custom fit options well within this budget. In fact, for £530 we managed to fit this gentleman for a set of irons in steel (5-SW), a hybrid and a fairway wood, plus a bag to pop these clubs in. I even chucked in some balls for him to enjoy. Step forward the brand taking the golf world by storm; Benross. The name may not stand out, you may not think they are flashy but my word they do some good equipment. You can grab a set of irons for £299 and better yet, they perform just as good as premium models. Benross use premium components, so their £179 driver has the same shaft as TaylorMade's M1 (£399), could it all be in the shaft? We challenge you to try the Benross against your own club and this year you can even win £500 for doing so. Come check the stuff out in the shop, chat to me about the different models and learn that fitting yourself for a full bag of sexy new clubs doesn't have to cost you thousands!
