Latest News
Welcome to Heysham Golf Club where the weather is scorchio, pictured you will see my view as I put this newsletter together… can't beat it. There is a few reasons why one would go outside with their laptop, but the main reason isn't the sun, it's the work that's going on outside the shop doorstep. Most of you will know what work is being done and the good news is by end of play Friday, the work shall be complete. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank those who purchased bricks to help fund this work, the bricks in question have been laid so we invite all of you to pop in this weekend to have a look and spend a few quid in the shop whilst you're here. I've put a couple of pictures together so you can see a clear image of the work before it is complete.
In other news, I have been slowly introducing Linda and Ryan to Twitter as we look to broaden our businesses interaction with our customers. Keep a look out for us on Twitter, follow us if you can and we will follow you back. Our aim is to use Twitter more with lessons, customers and to post pictures throughout the days. Keep a look out in the next few weeks as we add YouTube and Instagram to our Social Media stable. Enjoy this week's newsletter; we hope to see you over the weekend.
Members News
Congratulations to our qualifiers in our second Captain's Qualifier, the results can be found on your master's scoreboard and on our main noticeboard, the draw is now up for the matchplay section of the event. On Sunday we also ran another Pro Shop raffle, something that is proving a popular gamble amongst the members. This week we had four prizes, drawn at random and all winners now have the money deposited into their pro shop account. Prizes were as follows:
First place - A. Nuttall (£60), second place - M. A Holmes (£40), third place - D. M Hughes (£20) and in fourth place - R. Webster (£16).
The twos on Sunday were worth £10.50 per two.
HGC Short Game Academy
So far the feedback from everyone has been wonderful on the new facilities, so I would like to take the opportunity to thank those who have been up using it, there has been a lot of you! Unfortunately, we have had two incidents that are a big cause for concern and as our members we want you to help us stop this happening in the future. Remember these are YOUR facilities, but they must be looked after. Attached is a picture where some golfer has hit shots not only from the grass areas but not even then replaced the divots. This is unacceptable; the whole idea of this grant funded by Sport England was to create areas for play all year round, hence the thousands of pounds expended on mats. If you see someone ignoring the big rules board we set up and other signs, please politely tell them to use the mats. Yes, we would all love to hit off grass 24/7, but it is unfeasible to be able to do so. The mats pretty much feel better than turf, so give them a try before you judge them to be rock hard range mats. Here is a quick FAQ on the Short Game Academy:
Why can't I use my own balls?
The area is designed to accommodate as many as 15-20 golfers at any one time, if every golfer had their own balls to pick up it would be chaos. I know sometimes it can be quiet, but we also need each user to sign-in so we know how many people are using it, we have targets to hit with Sport England and this is how we do it. The balls are Titleist Pro V1s as well, we have obtained these to make the experience better when practicing, so please look after them.
Where do I get the balls? What if the shop is shut?
The tube of balls can be rented out from behind the bar after 6pm if the shop is closed, there is no cost for members to use these facilities, but we do ask for your members' card or £20 as a deposit. This isn't to say we don't trust our members, it is to stop balls/tubes going missing, even if by accident.

Lancashire vs. Durham County match - Saturday, 7 May
It was an honour for Heysham to host a full county match last Saturday and luckily we were blessed with a fairly nice day. The course was set up beautifully, something echoed by Lancashire and Durham players, officials and spectators. We had some kind words from both sides also about the new practice facilities. Not to blow Heysham's trumpet, but the Lancashire President has written to us to express they are the best he's seen.
On the day Durham took a 4-2 lead in the morning foursomes and after a break, some food and a quick putt a resurgent Lancashire took control of the tie to win 10-8. Well done the red roses!

'Thanks guys, these clubs have been amazing, I'm actually hitting it a lot further, I'm having to adjust myself as I'm not used to it. I won a competition the other day and my handicap has dropped already, couldn't have asked for more.'
Cheryl was fitted with the new PING G series irons and hybrids, subsequently she ordered another hybrid to fit a gap in her set.
