Latest News
This coming weekend provides ample chance to get some competitive golf under your belt, just as long as the weather stays away! On Saturday we have the Hill Cup and International, two division single stableford competitions joining our annual Seve Day! Saturday will be a club board competition but we also welcome guests to our Seve Charity Day to join us for a bit of fun, more information on that in our upcoming events section. On Sunday the Albert Barrett qualifier will be held, 16 participants (eight from each of our two divisions) will qualify to go into a matchplay format culminating in a final in September. Previous winners of this event include yours truly in 2005! We have had a busy week of competitions including the second President's Qualifier on Sunday and our first medal held this past Wednesday. Results can be found in our results section on our website or if you join our Facebook page you can catch our competition reports (parental guidance needed). We have also launched a few shop clothing offers this week, read about them later in the newsletter, our Swing Lounge Euro 2016 offer and more on coaching offered at Heysham Golf Club. Enjoy the read!

Heysham is a part of the Red Rose League, a group of clubs throughout Lancashire who play in matches throughout the summer in home and away matches. This week the Red Rose (over 65) team took on Lancashire Super Seniors in a friendly match at sunny Heysham to help keep the Super Seniors (handicaps 5-10) on top of their game to step up to the Lancashire Senior team. As always with HGC, the match was played in a warm friendly spirit and included a special guest appearance for our captain Stu Bradley. Our 12 guys (R. Minnery, J. Patton, R. Adams, B. Knowles, G. Mcallister, S. Bradley, P. Hampsey, J. Leamon, G. Legg, B. Patten, B. Catlow and A. Stewart) took home the spoils in a closely fought 7-5 victory. Well done guys!
Congratulations to junior member Matthew Bargh who had his second hole-in-one this week with an ace at the 5th hole. Keep an eye on Barghy as he will be hovering around the Clayton Team this summer.
A big thanks to Podge (Paul Rogerson, Vice Captain) for his hard work in a new exciting project for the future of Heysham Golf Club. Podge, with the help from a few juniors, help lay a time capsule into the ground which is to be opened on the club's 150th anniversary in 45 years' time. The capsule included a few items from members and also a nifty idea to buy a beer for someone in 45 years' time, let's hope I make it to then as I will treat myself to one of those beer tokens. Good work guys!
If you would like your team matches or section featured just send me the results and any small write-up. We will aim to feature as many competition results as possible in 2016!
Project Clubfit
We can officially (kind of), sort of, maybe, say that all the work that has been going on over the winter months have finished! The last phase was the flooring work done from the front car park entrance round the Swing Lounge and near the shop. Installed is our HGC monogram proudly featuring some names of members past and present. Check out the pics of the work that has been carried out, we are very happy with the finished project and we hope you are too!
Bit gutted to miss out on a brick in our HGC monogram? Fear not as we still have room for 30 more personalised bricks, you can join the names featuring on the top and bottom lines bordering our HGC. For only £59 you could etch your name into HGC folklore... To find out more contact the pro shop or Tony Wilkinson.
Seve Day - THIS Saturday
Our annual HGC Seve day is THIS Saturday and everyone is invited. Members, guests, families and all golfers, we would love for you to join us on a fun day full of golf, fun, food and beer! The fun starts at 1:30pm in the afternoon, but if you are playing in The Hill Cup/International event in the day you can start the fun rolling with a Charity Competition. Pay an extra £1 and add your score to one of Seve's major scores for a chance to win some prizes.
Also on the day we have lots of Seve inspired skills challenges on our short game area, games for non-golfers too. Full details are as follows:
Junior fun competition from 3pm
Tapas and BBQ from 2pm (weather dependent)
Happy hour from 5pm - 7pm
FA Cup Final LIVE on TV
Bring yourselves down on a fun day, with all money raised on the day going to Cancer Research and a donation made to our Junior Section. The bad weather, if it comes, won't spoil our day as we have plenty of fun activities on for parents and the kids, treasure hunts, sack races, bean bag races, well bob throwing, quizzes and much much more!

Coaching Corner
Last week Ryan and I held a primary school golf festival on our new facilities celebrating our recently opened Academy and bringing to a close the schools coaching we offer at local schools. 72 local children took part between the ages of 5-7 with Slyne with Hest coming out on top in a battle of the schools. The day was a huge success and we would like to thank Tim Fletcher, the Heysham High helpers and all the schools that took part in what was a top day! Next week we will be doing the same again but at a local community sports centre, Salt Ayre, bring it on!
