Today you may find me mostly at Salt Ayre as we tackle 120 children in an annual local sports festival, joining the likes of football, athletics, swimming and others. Golf is often well supported, which in 2016 is great to see. On the topic of coaching youngsters comes my main focus of this week's newsletter, coaching. As you know at Clubfit Golf we pride ourselves on local confidence in our abilities to help people's games, Ryan teaching full time and myself bringing together a mixture of kids and short game changes. With our new facilities giving us a wider scope to hold lessons of all kinds and abilities, we have launched some new coaching initiatives, along with a new lesson leaflet out soon with a few new additions to our price lists. In this newsletter you will find a way to help someone new 'Get into Golf', or have a full day coaching with myself and Ryan, or those more experienced could find out how to better their short game in masterclass evening. Coaching is effective with Clubfit Golf, we get results and you only have to look at Jack Senior's -6 first round this week on the Challenge Tour to see how effective it can be over the years. Our message to you, our members, guests and customers is simple: 'Golfers in the know, learn from their Pro', cheesy line with a mixture of truth and clarity. Members News
We would like to thank all the members, guests and families that joined us for Seve Day on Saturday. The day was a great success and whilst we count how much we raised throughout the various little fun projects, we can announce Ronnie Webster as the Seve Day Champion. Saturday was a great day for Ronnie as not only did he pick up a new pair of FootJoy HyrdoLites for his efforts, but he also managed to become International Champion. Ronnie will see his name up in gold leaf for 2016 in our Clubhouse. Sunday was an Albert Barrett qualifier, a medal event splitting the field in two divisions and eventually giving us 16 qualifiers. Speaking of members, our prestigious member, Captain Stuart Bradley holds some social events throughout the year including one coming up soon, read on to find out what's happening... it's a HGC favourite.
Captain's Drink n' Drive 9 Hole Social - Friday, 17 June
It's not what you think guys, we don't just all have a few and then drive down the bypass, with this event you leave your cars at home. The social is popular so please book ASAP on BRS with tee times available from 5pm (but going fast), I shall be involved and the concept it a doozy! Details are as follows:

Coaching Corner
Lessons are being booked in thick and fast as we move into season. This week I carried out some work with Jack Senior and his game is in really good shape, in fact as good as I've seen! He has made great progress in shallowing his swing plane out so watch out for his results over the next few weeks. This week in the Czech Open, he started with a flawless 66 (-6), bogey free and hitting 17 greens in the process. He will then have visits to the main Tour in Sweden, Austria and then a week off before defending his Challenge Tour title in Scotland (fingers crossed).
Closer to home, I have been doing lots of club fittings and there's some tasty product out there. The Callaway XR driver is proving very popular with great numbers on our FlightScope and very forgiving.
Short game lessons are going well and it's interesting to explain how new wedges work in regards to allowing "bounce" off the club to work. Ask Jim Harmer who was really struggling in bunkers but finished the lesson a bunker genius! The new short game area is being heavily used, but my pet hate is people trying to hit wedges/clubs too hard! Learn how to control the flight of the ball ensuring proper contact. It doesn't matter what number is on bottom of club. Just because Rory might hit a wedge 125 yards, doesn't mean you can. He wouldn't hit it anywhere near as far on a blowy Heysham day.

Get into Golf
Our Get into Golf sessions cost £25 per person for five one hour group sessions. These sessions start on Tuesday, 7 June and run for five continuous weeks (6.30pm - 7.30pm). Full details are as follows:
Learn to play Golf in a Day - Saturday, 9 July (10am - 4pm)
Ryan and I will take you through a day of coaching to help introduce you to the game of golf; or bring the memories flooding back if you are thinking of taking up the game again. The day will consist of learning the basics of the long game, putting, chipping and pitching culminating in a fun skills competition. To keep the energy levels high we will break for some lunch which is included in the price. This day is fairly hands on so we will only have six - eight spaces available, so please get booked in quickly. We will provide equipment and feel free to bring friends or family to come along and watch to make you feel at ease. The cost of the session is £49 including lunch.
Short Game Masterclass - Wednesday, 29 June (4pm - 7pm)
The short game is neglected, never will I hear the words, 'my chipping is awesome'. It just doesn't happen. We want to change that with our Short Game Masterclass event, the first of many helping you achieve results and to learn HOW to practice your short game. We have the facilities, now you need the skills. Full details are as follows:
The event is open to 8 - 10 people
Aimed at golfers of all abilities wanting to improve their short game
Will cover techniques on chipping, putting and short pitches
Will cover practice techniques, variable practice and HOW to get better
