This week has seen a big push on in the matchplay competitions held at the club, with as many as 10 matches a day being played this week. It is brilliant to see but also brings with it potential problems for those going for a knock after work. Yes, the course will be busy, but you can book through BRS to guarantee a tee time. If the course is too busy, then I would love to see some of you use our practice facilities, these are busy and in magnificent condition. Alternatively, The Swing Lounge is nice and cool in the heat, treat yourself to a beer and a cool game round the 2010 course at Celtic Manor. Today's newsletter highlights the amount of different events, competitions and facilities Heysham has to offer. We are celebrating the Euros with a host of games being broadcast LIVE on the big screen, drinks offers and even some freebies, but more on that shortly. A lifetime member who benefits from our amazing facilities is Jack Senior, in Austria this week after a trip to Sweden, find out more on his progress. Don't forget the US Open is next week, enter our draw to win the pictured limited edition Callaway bag!

Last weekend was the first of Heysham's infamous 36 hole competitions, not quite staged on the day anymore, the event is spread over a full weekend. A combined event for two divisions last weekend brought some great scores, some moaning and a few nightmares. Some of you may be aware of the Newsham write up I do weekly on Facebook, but for those that aren't, check it out below to find out what the fuss is about. Parental guidance is advised.

Pearce Smith & RB Lee Trophy
Weather - Hotter than Adrian Lockhart's Facebook page
I debated not doing a report this week as I didn't want Adrian Lockhart to take a picture of it and voice his displeasure at it on his Facebook account, but to hell with the motivational bugger, I'm going ahead with it.
In Division One scoring was low, despite the course playing like an Open Championship (Adi Lockhart wisdom), there were 22 players in the division who broke their handicap. Amazing scoring considering how humid the conditions were. I actually had a knock myself and felt amazing in my black pants. Luckily players could enjoy some refreshing tree sap at the 10th tee. The lowest score on the day was Dave Robinson, a 76-12-64 was probably due as his 12 handicap wasn't realistic. Despite being a Liverpool fan Dave's golf is worthy of that kind of scoring. Second place was saved for Julian Nash, his 75-10-65 again an impressive score in the muggy conditions. Jack Wilson scraped third by nosing ahead of Lee Tomlinson on a card play-off. Jack chipping his handicap down with his 77-12-65, even more impressive is that he did it playing with Clark (E) Stanley-Jones. Lee Tomlinson's 69 was the lowest gross of the day, followed by a couple of good 70's from Lee Thompson and Matty Bargh. The race for the Clayton hots up, hopefully I can get a review so far on the scoring put up on Facebook in the near future. Special mention to Martin Woodhouse who took 12 blows on the 5th, he shot 82 and actually saw his handicap go down 0.2. O, what a feeling!
In Division Two another Robinson took the honours, Big Ron with a 8-16-64 meaning dad and lad completed a double win. Poor Simon, being the runt of the litter on this occasion. In second place was HGC old timer, Alec Hornby; 87-21-66 would have probably won it on another day was it not for Ron's brilliance. In third was the consistent Jim Sayer, 94-25-69 shaved his handicap by a stroke.
Twos on Saturday were only worth £4.44 due to a huge influx of low scoring. Martin Woodhouse managed six of them, shame they were all on the 5th.
On Sunday the weather was even hotter and despite calls from competitors that the course was near unplayable, 13 players broke par. On an inspection today we discovered the ground is hard, caused by the lack of rain, thus making the odd bounce unpredictable. On behalf of the competitor that complained as such, and NR'd, we requested confirmation the course was fit to play from the R&A. Luckily a prompt reply followed to confirm the course was playable and the results will stand.
Les Moreland produced the best score of the day, a 76-12-64 was magic and rightly won Division One. Daniel Weatherill was unlucky not to win with a 79-14-65 which put him in second. In third was Dave Heywood, a 74-7-67 meant a drop in handicap to six, the same number of bottles he can drink in red wine. Our Pearce Smith winner after his second round of 77-10-67 was Julian Nash, two great scores sits him at the top of the tree. Special mention must go to Matty Bargh for two great rounds and Lee Tomlinson and Ryan Grimshaw for steady shooting. Also, after an angry start to the season, special mention must go to Josh Corless for not snapping a club this weekend, well done Josh. I hope you enjoyed your weekend in the Isle of Man.
On Sunday I had a lovely 99 in happy Mount Park, I paid £2 and even had some raspberry sauce on top. At Heysham, Callum Done was doing the same, a lovely 99 including a five putt on the last. He still beat Keith Gayton who's Division One score of 108 must be some kind of record. Speaking of records, we had a broken one back on Facebook, Adrian Lockhart again voicing his displeasure at the halfway house, NR'd despite being -9 through nine holes. He reached the often abandoned halfway hut and dropped straight onto the floor.
In Division Two Andrew Nunn had a cracking 84-18-66 to win the Sunday leg of the RB LEE Trophy. Again consistently producing a score meant a second placed finish for Jim Sayer (93-25-68). In third was HGC Director and our Presidents' Personal Assistant, Peter Savage, 85-16-69 another top score in hot conditions. Great scoring guys. But our RB LEE winner was none other than Ron Robinson, a second round of 88-16-72 was enough to secure victory for Big Ron and get his name up in gold leaf. Two's were worth £7.57 on Sunday.

Jack Senior Latest
Jack was plying his trade on the main tour last week in the gorgeous, but expensive country of Sweden. Those of you who check out the golf on TV, you may have seen the magnificent Bro Hof Slott Golf Club boasting a lot of water and no less than five par 5's. The winner came in young Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick, but our Bear Jack Senior made another European Tour cut on his way to a T68 finish. Jack had rounds of 71, 73, 71 and 82 round the par 72 course. This +9 total bagged jack €2,617 to help make the trip worthwhile even with a disappointing last round. Speaking to Jack he acknowledged he tried to stay patient and then in round four let loose, this ultimately backfired but in hindsight he didn't have anything to lose.
A quick flight to Austria and Jack was competing in the Lyoness Open, again on the main tour. An event boasting a first prize of €166,000. Jack has started well with a 3- under-round of 69, putting him in tied 7th. Come on the Bear!
