Every two years brings along with it something special and I'm not talking about Adam Bell being allowed to play golf. I am talking about the Ryder Cup. Hopefully you are as excited as me about the team event this year being held at four-time Major competition holder; Hazeltine. A strong American side looks to battle back and win back the trophy they last held in 2008 after Captain Azingers side dismissed Nick Faldo's European side. Since then Europe have been strong, we've had strong Captains and experienced sides mixed with debutantes, this year however we have six players who didn't take part in the 2014 at Gleneagles. My heart will always say Europe, but this year the US side seem more together, with a popular captain in Davis Love and a raft of superb Vice Captains including Tiger. They seem a formidable opponent. Europe are always together as a team, it's been a strong point and each time they have really played for their Captain (minus Faldo), but this time things may be different. The Opening Ceremony is tonight, with the first mornings pick coming out live, expect to see McIlroy/Garcia and Rose/Stenson as our first two pairings.
I could go on for a long time talking about previous Ryder Cups, but I need to get to the point and that is this special event, bringing friends and golfers together is amazing. Please join us at Heysham on Sunday for an exciting finish. Mark will host a happy hour on draughts from 7pm - 8pm, special three for two's on selected spirits and much more. I am also taking part in a members' Ryder Cup this Sunday, more on that, some autumn/winter gilets we have in stock and some information on 'The Bear.'
Members' News
As I mentioned, the Ryder Cup comes to Heysham on Sunday....kind of. Team Europe vs. Team USA in the Hoover Trophy spectacular. The matches are as follows: Woodhouse/Barry vs. J. Smith/ W. Thomson, Corless/Palmer vs. Ward/N. Lamb, Charnley/G. Thomson vs. R. Smith/Sadler, Cowell/Dobson vs. Podge/C. Done, Stephenson/Shimwell vs. Clelland/Duckworth, Carter/Weatherill vs. Savage/L. Done, Marsden/Lane vs. Wilson/Curtis Done, plus match eight TBC.
I will give you a report next week on the winners, losers, the shirt wearing, worst scores of the day and any stories (probably regarding Cowell).
Unfortunately I haven't got a better photo as our Club Photographer hasn't been back in, but attached is a picture of the annual Wheatley visit to Heysham as we welcomed them over last weekend. Some stay for a few nights, others just for the night, but it's always great to see familiar faces and then see them again slightly rough the next day!
Another note on the course, our course manager has now stopped bookings of buggies indefinitely for the winter, any buggies booked before yesterday will be honored.

The Swing Lounge Winter League is back!
I am excited to say our Swing Lounge Winter League is back, bigger and better than last year! The league will start from Tuesday, 1 November, below are a few points of what to expect including a new fourball betterball format and the top four entering a play-off (like the footy) on our Finals Weekend in March. Titleist are on board and we will have many great prizes. Details are as follows:
New courses including Celtic Manor and Royal Aberdeen.
10 courses in total to be completed (9 holes).
League format culminating in a Matchplay Play-off Weekend and Final.
Format will be Fourball Betterball with a Russian Stableford last event.
Maximum handicaps will apply.
Titleist sponsored event with top 10 receiving prizes plus a highest ladies and mixed prize.
The Winter League will end on the first weekend in March 2017.
Play will be any time excluding Wed, Fri and Sat nights.
Pairs format with no exchanging of players.

Jack Senior Latest
The bear is in Kazahkstan this week in the Challenge Tours biggie, offering up big prize money and at a time when Jack needs it. Last week in Germany he was unlucky to miss the cut in a low scoring rain hit event, seeing a cutline at -4 isn't surprising considering the placing and on a scoreable course, producing arguably target golf for the continent's best players. Meanwhile, Rory is picking up $12 million, unbelievable how fickle this game is. Anyway, onwards and upwards for Jack, who is actually hitting the ball well. It really is just a case of securely fastening four decent rounds together, seldom does he have a card without the odd mistake, so we hope he can manage that this week as no mistakes and a high finish would be great news. Jack has played his first round already and sits inside the top 20 on -3 in another low scoring event, five birdies and three bogeys means he sits four off the lead. A solid start for the Overton man.
