Well done to Walter Smith Memorial winner Brian "Stivvi" Stephenson who shot a tremendous 42 points and gets a handicap reduction to 11 to finish the season. Is it a coincidence Brian was in the last playing group of the day benefiting from the best of the weather?
In other news.... despite many promises to have a single figure handicap, Jack Cowell has finished the season as a 10 handicapper. Oh well Jack, there's always next year.

A minute with the Coach...
A few mentions from some of my pupils this week - Vince ( 81 year old gent), who was on the verge of packing the game in, has made huge progress with his technique and a yardage gain of 15 yards with his irons and 22 yards with his driver - awesome effort.
Also Nick, who has really been putting in the practice, we have worked on three key areas in his swing and it's working a treat. Nick by his own admissions had a poor season last year, but if the improvements continue, watch out boys, he's a serious contender for the Clayton Trophy and major competitions.
I'm looking forwards to our Junior Skills Challenge this Saturday where we will have 30+ kids taking part in 18 challenges testing their short game skills, together with some invited guests from other local clubs. Fingers crossed the weather is kind.
On Sunday I'm involved with the County Academy Programme Selection Day at Myerscough College with the Under 18 players from around Lancashire. Also with Lancashire in mind, and a feather in my cap, I have been asked to be one of the lead coaches for the main Men's squad and I will be holding training sessions in the new year on our marvelous short game facilities. Exciting times ahead.
I have received some good news on four U.S. college players I teach and keep in touch with and give advice online; Jack Clarkson, Adam Stone, Chris Carney and our very own Megan Cullen are all doing great in their start to the season.
Jack Senior
Jack is coming into the final stretch of the season and this is where it could turn really interesting. Jack is guaranteed his Challenge Tour status for 2017, and his aim now is to break into the top 45 to play in the Final Event in Oman.
Jack has two events to go, this week in China and the week after in the U.A.E, two good finishes could make all the difference. As I write he is currently -4 in his first round after 11 holes, right up there. Come on the Bear! I caught up with him on Sunday and he is flushing it.
Ryan.
