Welcome to the second week of rehabilitation for Mr D and Clubfit Golf where you will hear from the man himself in 'a word from the coach'. Despite being laid up, Ryan has been hammering the laptop and chewing my ear off daily, but we have some exciting plans in place which will be touched on in this email. Day 10 of my workathon has been good fun as luckily the club has been quiet during the past week, no doubt down to poor weather and the inevitable lull that January so often brings. The week has been fun down on the range with some new lessons and a fitting for a good customer on Friday. He will be getting his hands on some Callaway Apex irons, with a new lie adjustment showing improvement in his swing since his last set, working with Ryan has paid off for this 'un-named bloke', his other half must know about his purchases. The Swing Lounge was the setting for some junior lessons this Monday as well, great fun and a nice warm environment, check out Charlie's lie!
I wish there was some exciting news to bring you from the club, but not even a Sunday Winter league could muster up some stories that I can twist into a HGC fable. Which gives me the perfect opportunity to slip away on holiday for a week or so, leaving you in the capable hands of Mrs D. I will however be on the lookout for some testers as new product starts to land for 2017; last year Jockey and Fish gave us some entertaining reads for a few weeks, but more on that shortly.
This weekend is our January Winter Open, which is now fully booked, but if you would like to be a standby golfer then feel free to call us in the shop and will stick your name down on the special list. Members' News
The heavyweight team (literally) of Mark Charnely, Roy Hogg, Adrian Lockhart and Dave Howard blew the field away with an 86 team total in Sunday's Winter League event. The next couple of places could only manage 81 points, a sizeable five point gap away from the winners. Full results are posted on the noticeboard, or can be found through your Masters Scoreboard Account.
You know we love our members at Heysham and that is why we lovingly need your help; did we also mention we love you? Ryan is off and the range needs help during the wet months, sometimes we have to restrict the range to irons only and other times we have to reluctantly close it, but to help keep it open we need some 'plugged ball' help. All you have to do is register your help with Linda in the shop, give us an hour of your time whenever you can spare it where you will wander down to the range and pick up some plugged balls. Linda will look after you with a brew and if you want a few balls to go and hit, I'm sure we can manage that as well.

Upcoming Events - Gent's Annual Dinner - Friday, 17 February
Welcome your new Captain Paul Rogerson into office in his first official function as 2017 Captain. Enjoy a three course meal from our amazing Catering team at Heysham Golf Club, sink it down with a few (20) pints and have a good laugh with fellow members. Your support and good humour is welcome to this evening, I'm sure Captain 'Podge' will be appreciative. I'm looking forward already to 2017 with Paul in office.
Tickets are £18 per person. You can sign-up yourself on the list situated on the snooker room noticeboard. Dress code will be black tie for the evening. The menu can be seen on the main noticeboards.
A Word from the Coach
First of all, can I thank everyone for their well wishes and as always, the HGC banter supplied in the past couple of weeks? I am on the road to recovery... I think. I am doing my best to keep patient, do the exercises I was given and in the next few weeks I can hopefully build it up, start putting weight on my leg to begin walking and moving again.
A special thanks to Linda and Trev for everything, Linda has been brilliant and believe it or not has been patient with me! I couldn't have done this without her help though. Trev has done well in holding the fort in the past 10 days, re-merchandising parts of the shop as new gear comes in and getting plenty done surprisingly with my help despite being laid up. Trev is going on his holidays tomorrow, so I hope he enjoys himself as does the rest of the Newsham clan!
As I have had a lot time to kill my head has been working overtime, the laptop has been on fire as I plough through job lists, emails and plans for 2017. Trev and Linda will be getting sick of my daily texts and phone calls, however it has kept me sane. With Trevor away next week the newsletter will start to showcase dates/events that Clubfit Golf will be running throughout 2017 so get your diaries ready for that one!
I've also managed to have a great catch up and chat with some of my students who are currently over in America at College. Adam Stone, Chris Carney and Jack Clarkson are doing amazing work over there on their studies, but also in their golf and I am constantly trying to help and coach them from over the pond. Let's not forget our very own Meg Cullen over in the U.S. Happy 21st Birthday to Megster, who is looking and doing brilliant.
Speaking of catch ups, I have also sat down with 'The Bear' this past week. Jack is currently resting up as he has been struggling with a thumb injury the past year. Jack has received some treatment so it won't be long before he can start practicing again and look towards the new season with a fire in his gut! Despite the injury, Jack has been working hard in the gym and also doing some positive mind and body work with Tim Barry, Tim has been brilliant and Jack now has a positive frame of mind to smash this year to pieces, grabbing his full Tour Card in the process. Jack now has experience at this level, his game isn't even in question and with a better, more professional structure in place, I feel 2017 will be his year. Let's have a bit of luck please.
Finally, I have started planning with Trevor some new additions to Clubfit Golf to add to our repertoire. Look out for SAM putt Lab, Focus headband and a new wedge stamping service, that's all I can detail for now.
