Welcome to rainsville, where it rains and rains and rains. A quick reminder on that note that sometimes when the course may be wet, and the range may have to be closed, we have the warm Indoor Swing Lounge to be utilised or indeed our short game facilities that are available for use at all times due to our wonderful astro turf friend. Basically I am saying you have no excuse to get your game in check for the new season, you don't want to miss out now do you? Morecambe members Andy and Dave both had an MOT on their game, coming up from the range beaming; they know they have an advantage now. Heysham members what if you fall behind your rivals? Is it some new equipment you need? Rodney Banks-Lyon, a fabulous business man of many sparkly items treated himself to a sparkly new driver this week. A Callaway Fusion to be exact, with an inch shorter shaft; a move that is all the rage these days as seen by Rickie Fowler's win on Sunday night. A shorter shaft can offer you more control as some companies gradually sneak up their driver lengths to help increase clubhead speed and distance. Could you sacrifice three or four yards for a few more fairways? Find out a little more on this week's tuition in coach's corner later on in this newsletter. Enjoy a bit of product information on some new arrivals, or find out how you could bag a dozen Pro V1s for FREE.
Members' News
Well done Graham Sheedy, John Merrell, Neil Thomson and Phil Howarth for an impressive win in damp, blustery conditions last Sunday. Their team score of 82 was a decent achievement considering the closure of three holes due to Doris battering Morecambe Bay. The Winter League is coming to a close, meaning a tight finish is inevitable for the Winter League Shield. Roy Hogg leads the way on 24 points closely followed by John Dobson and Jim Miller on 22.
On Sunday in the clubhouse, some members also benefitted from Heysham's Free Chip Program. A wonderful local charity run by Malcolm Savage who comes into the clubhouse and supplies Winter League players with free chips. Bless Malcolm, he comes every Sunday rain or shine to supply the gaggle of golfers fresh out the quagmire of a Winter League expedition. So a big well done to Mal Savage, what a hero, our very own Mr Chips.

Coach's Corner
It's the start of March and another week on my road to recovery which is getting easier by the day, as always thanks for the well wishes. The Swing Studio has had a little spruce up and the stands are filling up with all the latest custom fitting equipment for 2017, check out a couple of pictures of the work so far with more to come.
The weather has been awful at times with Doris making an appearance and affecting the range. However, some good progress was made with pupils getting MOT sessions and fittings. Alan came down yesterday for an MOT session and we quickly changed his set-up to have him hitting it better than ever. He was also chuffed as Trev gave him a FREE grip for his 7-iron. All in a days work at HGC. We also had a few last minute lessons to a few guys going out to Portugal next week. I'm mentioning no names, but I hope the weather is brilliant for you lads (Trevor edit - It was Adam Kilifin and Andy Entwistle. Good hustle lads).
A special mention to Adam Stone and Chris Carney who are in the States at college and won their East/West Divisions. Adam won the individual as well with a stunning 66 last round. Click here to see Adam's scorecard.
I am constantly working with the four college players (Our own Meg Cullen and Jack Clarkson) often giving advice and drills as they send swing videos over the net. I had a first session on the range with Jack and it went really well after his recovery from thumb injections. Promising signs and got a simple procedure/check lists set in place for the year ahead. Keep things simple!
The Junior Academy Lesson last Saturday was great fun and positive despite the bad weather. We worked on some very important mental approach information, planning for the season, routines and goal setting for the season ahead. After my first 10 days easing gently back into things, the diary has started to get rammed, so please make sure you ring well in advance for your lessons please. Remember my MOT lessons run right through until the end of this month so get them booked in here. Find out below if you don't know what's included as well as mine and Trev's short game days.

New Arrivals
We have had a number of new arrivals in the pro shop this week, including:
As well as a few other ranges we will look slightly closer at... see below.
FootJoy ProS/L Shoes
I am lucky to be a FootJoy Shoe Ambassador along with Ryan and Linda for 2017, with my choice being the ProS/L shoe (with BOA). Those not familiar with BOA can check the concept out in the shop, replacing laces with a wire locking system helping to give you a secure tighter fit. This works, there is no two-way about it and the ProS/L shoe is as comfy as any other spikeless shoe I've ever tried. Some of the top names are already using them on Tour, but be aware supplies are limited due to it's popularity. Come see us to check out our size options in the colours pictured. These shoes are prices at £129 including a one year guarantee.

Odyssey O-Works Putters
I've tested a few of the new range from Oydssey, a range focused on getting the ball rolling as soon as possible. This isn't a new concept, but Odyssey have really hit home on the perfect roll for 2017. There is 11 designs in total all coming standard with a SuperStroke putter grip with an option to go thicker. Personally I don't like going to go thick as I have a rather rotatitve stroke needing a certain amount of release from my hands. Using the SAM Putt Lab we could see I was suited to the #1 which is a heel-toe balanced design, best used on arc'd strokes. Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy are gaming some of this range this year, with custom inserts. So if the best can get on with it... why can't you?
These putters start at £169 and we offer FREE fitting using our SAM Putt Lab. Click here to learn more.
