It's officially Masters week.... As I write this we have just one day to go until the first Major of the year gets underway and the golf season gets a big shunt into spring. My only wish is that the weather would suddenly match Augusta rather than a dull chilly April weekend in a rather dull UK! Has everyone got a bet on? My main pick for the opening major is Phil Mickelson. Phil can still produce the goods and arguably still has the greatest short game in the world; something that certainly fits in well round Augusta. Despite his wayward driving, I trust Phil to get it round and if he gets the putter hot, we could be in for a big Phil win! A decent outside bet is always Lee Westwood, he has a very good record round Augusta. I'd like to hear some of your picks so check out our Facebook page to give us a heads up on who you're money is going on ahead of arguably the most exciting golf week of the year. Have you seen what Danny Willett chose for his Champion's Dinner last night? Click here to view. You can't take Yorkshire out of the boy!
As it is Masters Week, we will have some special 'Masters Deals' on this weekend only in which you could pick up some clothing for HALF PRICE, a big saving on Scotty Cameron Newport putters, Cleveland wedges at their lowest ever price and some more tricks up our sleeve. Better yet, if you are playing Sunday you can enter our Masters Sunday Sweep; more on that shortly. Ryan is back with a quick blog about his week, we have a quick introduction on our new member of staff joining us and much more coming up.
Staff News
Chris Gardner, who has been with us for a couple of years, has recently finished up his time here moving fully to Bentham Golf Club servicing their team with Professional Nick. Chris has been a great asset and we have enjoyed working with him, we can only wish him the best of luck in his future! He may still be around from time to time lending a hand, so don't get the tissues out just yet. However, with Chris leaving we are introducing a new member to our team; Paul Woodhouse.
Paul is currently based at Lancaster Golf Club (some of you may know him already) where he has been working for Professional David and getting plenty of coaching in. Luckily for us Paul applied for our opening and fitted the bill of a passionate golfer, eager to work with us and carry on his coaching duties. From May onwards we will boast three PGA Professionals available for coaching, something we will be very proud of as we expand our team. We hope all our members and customers will welcome Paul to the club as only we know, with a smile and a bit of banter. In the coming weeks I will detail a bit more about Paul so we get to know him better.

Congratulations to Terry Hoare and Chris Donaldson for their victory in the annual Trimpell Tassie event last Sunday. The bogey event is a tough one to win, but the duo produced a +8 bogey total to win by a couple. Full results can be found on the noticeboard. This week's event will be the Fred Bland Trophy, a pairs stableford event. Team Clubfit would also like to send our well wishes to Gav Thomson who has had surgery this week to help fix a dodgy nerve and shoulder problem. Those who know Gav can have a fun guess at what caused his arm to regularly go numb!

Sunday's Masters Sweep Event
You can enter our Masters Sweep this Sunday when you sign-in for the Fred Bland Trophy, here's how it works:
When you sign-in on Sunday, you and your partner will draw at random a player from the Masters Sunday Field.
Your pairs point total at the end of the round will get added to your Masters player's final round total.
Their score to par will get changed into points to add to your score. For example a -5 round will add five points to your score. The lower the score for the golfer, the higher your points total will become.
The top two pairs will receive a share of the prize fund taken on the day paid into their accounts. Top two places will be announced Monday.
Good luck!
Coach Corner
With the full golfing season fast approaching, things have suddenly gone manic in the teaching world and I've found myself booked up for at least a week in advance. I do enjoy this time of year when they come thick and fast and there has been some notable success with my students including two lads I've coached for a few years now; Adam Stone and Jack Clarkson. Click on links below to find out about their wins in the States. I also enjoyed coaching 32 CAP players last weekend, and I'm looking forward to our short game masterclass involving the county men's and boy's squads at the end of April. The putting nights have been a huge success and I've been enjoying using our new SAM Putt Lab as seen on TV recently with putting coach Phil Kenyon, who uses it to teach Rory and other big stars (Click here to learn more). You can book our upcoming putting nights via the shop or click here to send us an email.
On Tuesday it was a weird experience when coaching the fella I used to caddy for at 14 in the British Open 1988 (my mentor growing up), Trevor Foster (100 + games for Lancs, County Champ, won 40 North Region events) and another seniors partner for Lancashire's Gary Byrne. These guys are a pleasure to teach. Until next time, get your lessons booked in here and I will sort you out for the season ahead.
