We have had such a tragic week here in the North with recent events in Manchester hanging over us as we head into the Bank Holiday Weekend. Monday night will stay with me for a long time, so I find it hard to be joyous about a simple matter of playing golf when families and communities are grieving, but as Queen sang, the show must go on. With that in mind I want to spend this section not pushing our business, but pushing charity, charity within our golf club and the wider community. The Captain's and Lady Captain's Charities are Galloway's and CancerCare. These can be supported with donations throughout the year, but you can also enter a FREE Membership Draw which is found in the bar area. It is £10 a square and will be drawn in October with all remaining proceeds going to their charities. You will also see in our upcoming events a Ceilidh Night coming up next week, again with proceeds going towards out Club Charities. If you ever need a pencil, pick one up from the shop and make a donation into one of our charity tubs from St. Johns Hospice and CancerCare. In the community we have many groups and organisations we can help, so please do what you can to help the Heysham and Morecambe people. A group of our members will also be taking part in the MacMillan 72 Hole Challenge, so look out for some information on how you can help sponsor the 'Heysham Hackers', including members Rob Smith, Jack Cowell, Carl Sadler and Ryan Grimshaw. Enjoy the newsletter, enjoy golf and enjoy life.

A huge well done to Simon Robinson for his 43 point win (64 gross) last Sunday in the International. A total of eight birdies gave Simon (Beany) his best round in a few years and he is arguably showing his best form in 10 years. I look forward to seeing more from him this year as we head towards the Clayton. A big well done to Jack Qualtrough for his win also in the Hill Cup, the event held same day for the Second Division. Also, well done to those who qualified for the Albert Barrett, another matchplay event is now awaiting those 16 who qualified. Speaking of matchplays, the evenings are getting very busy with matches, leaving not much time for casual golf. So please get yourself booked in advance and don't pitch up to play or else you may end up disappointed with a long wait. All other results including twos and our Pro Shop Raffle can be found on the main club noticeboard.
