As we are all aware, the club is in a thriving and fruitful partnership with Lloyd South Lakes BMW and Mini. This partnership has proved a great success and this was shown with a BMW/Mini golf day that was held at the club yesterday. Special thanks must go to Lloyd South Lakes for their support of the club, the day was a huge success with many of their customers enjoying the course, set up beautifully by Dave and his team; plus not to mention the excellent food by our catering team. It goes without saying that partnerships such as this are paramount to help Heysham Golf Club run as it does, so a big thank you to Jack Cowell, the New Car Sales Manager at LLoyds. Thank you to those members that understand the importance of such sponsorship deals as we allowed them the use of the course yesterday. LLoyd support the club in paying for hole cups, flags, marketing materials around the club plus the use of advertised cars around the club and the local area promoting Heysham Golf Club, Clubfit Golf and Lloyd South Lakes. If you do fancy treating yourself to a new motor, grab one of our business cards which will give you £50 credit to spend in our shop should you purchase a car. All BMW/Mini inquiries should go to Jack Cowell, member of the club and below average golfer.
In today's newsletter we will hear from Ryan, give word about new scorecards, upcoming coaching and fitting events and how you can win big in our Open Prize Draw. It's also our PRO-Am-Am Saturday so I look forward to seeing you all on the day and as always thank you to Tony Johnson for all his hard work organising this event. Plus you can still get a place in our club gapping day to find out YOUR yardages for every club down to the exact yard for only £25!
Members' News
Last weekend the club held the Charity Cup, a North Lancashire Junior League event, and Preston Golf Club came out on top as winners. Lancaster Golf Club also won the team gross on the day. Heysham had quite a few absentees so we fielded a very young and inexperienced team. A big well done to everyone that represented us on the day. Speaking of juniors, John Wilding will continue to represent Lancashire boys and his partner Grady in the foursomes, so hopefully they produce a lasting partnership in the future. John recently represented Lancashire against Chesire halving his foursomes match and singles match in the afternoon, Cheshire won the match 11 - 7 on the day.
On Tuesday our Lady Captain Liz Keary held her Lady Captain's Day at the club, 27 holes of golf with a lunch in between and an evening meal on a day which originally promised horrendous weather. Fortunately it was better than feared and the ladies with some wet gloves in tow battled their way round. Well done to Jackie Gow who came out on top as winner.
New Scorecards
The club has now invested in some new scorecards which can be collected as usual in the pro shop. These cards will go straight into play, but their will be noticeable differences. The yardages have slightly altered after the course was re-measured and the course includes the new SSS of 71 for white tees. The card also has several stroke index changes. The 3rd, 9th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 16th have slightly altered so grab a card and check out the changes. The boards on the course will not change. If you are currently in a club matchplay, please use the stroke indexes found on these boards not the new cards. Any confusion, or if you need clarity, please pop into the shop and chat to myself or Linda.
Friday Socials
Our Captain Paul Rogerson holds some social events on Fridays throughout the summer, his next one is tomorrow night in a 'drink and drive' sequel. The concept is to play nine holes and have an alcoholic drink on every odd tee to give you that fuzzy feeling whilst golfing. You can still enter so give us a call, or find the entry sheet on our Snooker Room Noticeboard.
Word from the Coach
A great week on the teaching front from some of my pupils from around the area, a great mix of all ages and abilities. The Open Qualifying events were on Monday with some of our students taking part, as well as our Assistant Paul. Unfortunately some missed out, but a big well to Adam Stone and Jack Clarkson who've made it through to the final stage. They will join Jack in the quest to get through to The Open at Royal Birkdale on Tuesday. Jack Clarkson also finished second in The Berkshire Trophy, a big EGU Event and stacking up some great OWGR points in the process. A special mention as coach goes to our own John Wilding, after a great score at the weekend's medal he then played for Lancashire boys against Cheshire. John had two halved matches and will represent them again shortly with three other players of the eight who I also teach ( Louis and Harvey Talarczyk and Owen Leigh, well done lads).
The Done's are battling it out with one another to see who's going to finish with the lowest handicap by the end of the season. Lucas is down to five and Curtis is hot on his tail at six, keep it up and no squabbling!
We are looking forward to the Pro-Am am this weekend and the cream of our local talent playing alongside our members, so let the battle commence.
Finally, on the club fitting front, I've has Big Baz Simcox stripping it with the new Epic driver gaining 25 yards easily, not bad for a 60 year old! The Epic drivers, whilst not cheap, are a serious piece of kit. It was also great to see Joe Crookall for some lessons and a fitting, Joe was a junior member at Morecambe growing up and has now got back into the game.
