I want to welcome you to this week’s newsletter by giving you a little insight into the life of a Golf Professional. Since Monday Ryan has carried out over 30 lessons and then at least six fittings of various types of club. Ryan has also had Morecambe Road bring two classes along to our facilities on Monday and Wednesday as he continues their weekly sessions. In the meantime he has been preparing for the visit of Lancashire this coming Sunday in the annual CAP Short Game Day. Several coaches, including Ryan, will lead a multitude of Lancashire Squad Golfers in a series of skills tests on our award winning short game facilities. Whilst Ryan has been busy, so has the shop with myself and Linda fighting usual golf club fires plus welcoming 120 golfers taking part in the East Lancs PGA Alliance. The day was successful and as a big money spinner for the club we hope to welcome them back next year. I have also been out in the community coaching, starting with a junior class in Casterton on Monday, before visiting local school Mossgate on Wednesday introducing their year 3/4 class to golf. The hope is I can entice them to come to Heysham for coaching in the future and subsequently become members of the club. After that it was a visit to our Lady of Lourdes primary school where I carried out an after school session before flying back to give my Bunker Education Class. The bunker session was awesome, I loved it and I hope the five attendees did too! Today as I put this together I am planning for our summer in the Swing Lounge to coincide with the 2018 World Cup before an after school session at Skerton St. Lukes. Paul in the meantime has been taking his year three PGA exams, I'm sure he will appreciate some words of encouragement when you next see him. So all in all a busy week, but this is standard at Heysham Golf Club, mix in a broken range machine and it's all systems fully go. We love what we do, we love coaching, fitting, teaching children, playing about in bunkers and Ryan most importantly loves bleaching range balls, so enjoy the newsletter with news from around the club and how you can get involved with the goings on at HGC. |
Wheatley Away Trip As I mentioned last week we sent a pack of HGC members over to Wheatley last weekend in their annual match up against 24 Doncaster lads over three days. I know several of our members may have been in Biscuit Billys until the early hours, a club/pub with a strange name, not sure whether I dare ask where it got its name. The Wheatley Golf Course however played part to a great weekend's golf, hearing great things about the course makes me want to one day visit and take part; maybe a Pro's match-up? The lads all donned their crested shirts we supplied for them as a fitting tribute to their great friend Fozzy. You can check out the picture as well a nice image of our Vice Captain Carl Sadler and Tim Barry collecting their dog licences, I will let you ask them how that happened! The Wheatley crew will return to Heysham in September. |
A word from Rabbits Captain Paul Kelly on their recent away day to Carus Green... A great day was had by all except the wooden spoon winner of which to save embarrassment I am not revealing. The weather was unbelievably sunny and the golf entertaining, thanks to Carus Green for their hospitality on the day. The Tiger trophy, presented to the Non-Rabbits Winner on the day was won by Malcolm Parker with a remarkable 29 points in tricky conditions. Winner of the Buggs Bunny Trophy with 38 points was Dave Holland, in second place was John Aspinall with 37 points and in third our Top Jock Michael Murray with 33 points. |
|
Half-way Winning Rabbit was Steve Towers with 18 points and congratulations also to Steve Hall for his nearest the pin win. Twos were scored by Jim Sayer and Dave Holland. But the unbelievable two of the day was by Dave Kendall on the 10th. As I was reminded by Rabbits Treasurer John Beresford that Dave Kendall never came on the away day, so I live up to my reputation; Captain cock-up. Mind you some golfers turned up and didn't even play! Roger! The saga continues at the next Rabbits Away Day at Knott End Golf Club on Friday, 21 September. All golfers are welcome and I would love to see some new faces there. |
Luney Day Out The Luney Day Out draw can be found on the noticeboard in the locker room. If you need any more help or information come see us in the shop. |
Congratulations... A huge well done to Trevor Foster who won the first Seniors' Order of Merit event of the year in the West of England Championship. His 148, two round total, meant a tense four hole play-off in which Trev prevailed. The big man, now of +1, should be well known to many of you as Ryan caddied for him in 1987 as a 13 year old breaking records as the youngest caddy in the Open Championship. Trev has been coming regularly to Ryan for lessons and it's great to see him picking up an early season win. |
Bunker Education A big thanks to those who took part in my Bunker Education class yesterday. In around 90 minutes we covered awkward lies, sand, technique and a little specialist shots before each attendee had their own individual lesson. It was a pleasure and I will be looking to hold another in the near future so please look out for that one! Until then you can brush up on all your short game skills in our next Masterclass on Saturday, 19 May. The details are below but please note we only have three spaces left!

[* END *] Urethane cover? So what... |
A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common… |
Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials. Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots. However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative. |
|
| As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing. |
