At Heysham Golf Club this week it's all change as our General Manager Ed Burrow has left the building leading an interim period of Paul Wareing taking charge of the office and Dave Hutchinson acting as a supervisor for all heads of team as we head into a busy period with new caterers due to arrive in a couple of weeks. We'd like to wish Ed all the best at Vale of Lune and look forward to increasing our efforts with the help of Paul, Dave and the club to improve this great golf club! Speaking of great, how great was England's win on Monday night, a thrilling end to the game, we enjoyed with those in attendance here in the bar. Don't forget you can join us for the next match against Panama on Sunday at 1:00pm. The bar will be fully stocked with drink offers starting at the half time whistle! Look out for the Pro-Am-Am draw which will be published tomorrow on our Facebook page and the club will send an email out, so watch out for that one; whoever is in my team may win on the day just like my team did last Friday at Grange-Over-Sands. A big thank you to Grange for their hospitality, to Nick their Professional as well as Margaret and the girls for their hard work in the bar and on the food. It was a great day for Captain Gav and the club and we also raised £400 for the continued back bar restoration. A big thank you to everyone that came and of course to Nick Lamb for building the bus in the clubhouse for his team to then sit on it for his in correct scoring, what a gent he is! In this week’s newsletter you can see which Manchester United star has been coming for lessons, a look at some new offers launched this week in store and a new short game challenge I've been doing this week with my students. Enjoy your weekend of golf (and football)... |
On the Course... We had a break from medal play this past weekend with our Summer Single Stableford event, proving popular with 135 taking part. Division One was a tight contest and a sneaky win for Alan Maxwell with 40 points meant a card play-off win over Pete Smith. Both men are similar in handicap, also with their womanly ways and drinking to the early hours so it just goes to show anyone can master the game of golf on their day. Third place was Adam Kilifin who won't be happy his handicap has come down after some serious protection! Division Two winner John Morley enjoyed 38 points in the tricky conditions, just beating Martin Culshaw on 37 and Kev Walsh on 36 points. Division Three winner Paul Wareing has considerably improved his golf, maybe it's the work rate in the office... Dave Hargreaves' comeback is getting better, he came second with 39 and Jim Dick falling in third with 38. Well done to all, keep it up this weekend in Sunday's Medal! A big well done also to Scott Lee and Irene Hall for their win in the Jack Toulmin Trophy last Saturday, a mixed drawn greensomes event. Also to Colin and Lynne Hynd who qualify to represent Heysham in the Silver Basket. In honour of our past Lady Captain Jean Copley, who we sadly lost, the ladies section held the first Jean Copley Trophy this past Tuesday with Sue Senior winning the event. A big thank you to Peel Ports for their continued support of the Junior Team as they sponsor our team shirts in 2018. It is a massive help to our section and helps the boys and girls look smart as they take to the courses against North Lancashire's other golf clubs.

A word from Ryan... I've had a great week and not to mention a busy one, but it always picks up when I have some results from my pupils. Firstly Harvey Talarczyk won the Royal Lytham Scratch in blustery conditions with a two-under 36 hole total to blow the field away (nearest +7 from other county players). Also to the legend Trevor Foster who had a fourth placed finish in English Seniors' and was runner-up in Lancashire Seniors' Championships. It was great to see an article on him in the Lancashire Telegraph where I was proud to receive some plaudits for our work together. For all you Man Utd fans it was great to start coaching Scott McTomonay, a fantastic player who is destined to great things in the game of football, ironically it was my dad who took him and got him signed for Man Utd years ago when scouting. I am looking forward to Monday with the Regional British Open Qualifiers at Fairhaven Golf Club... Good luck to all the guys I coach: - Chris Rushton.
- Adam Stone.
- Chris Carney.
- Loius and Harvey Talarczyk.
- John Wilding.
- Mark Ashworth.
- And our own Paul Woodhouse.

Short Game Handicap Challenge - Par 18 Here's a quick way to measure the quality of your short game and improve your game in the process: - Create nine varied chip shots around our chipping green, picking three hard, three medium and three easy shots.
- Play them all to the same flag on the green to create a consistent approach.
- The simple job is to try get all shots up and down in two, creating a par score of 18.
- Make sure to have a variety of clubs to use and your putter.
- After completing all nine, count up your score.
- Keep record of this score and practice each week, then see if you can improve this score. Always try to play from the same spots to create a specific and measurable target.
Good luck and keep me informed in the shop how you get on! A great way to practice under pressure and test your self.

Summer golf throws up different requirements and skill sets to that of winter golf, and you’ll often find yourself in positions or playing shots that you wouldn’t necessarily face at the other times of the year. The checklist below highlights the main performance differences you’ll notice between seasons, with an emphasis on distance in the winter and control in the summer. |
A great option all-year round These factors can make settling on one ball confusing, so here are our thoughts on why the TaylorMade Project (s) could be your perfect option. Not only does its large inner core deliver faster ball speeds for winter distance, but it also boasts a low compression that helps slower swinging players generate the high spin needed on firm summer greens. | |
