Well, what an eventful week full of some incredible stories for Heysham Golf Club, it's members and others involved. For starters we have welcomed Jan and Mike to the club as our new catering team. The lovely couple have also introduced a new menu to the club so be sure to check it out and also give your feedback to Mike and Jan including anything you would like to see on the menu. We look forward to working with them, I've already been lucky enough to fill my stomach with some great food! It's also been great news for our junior section, you can read about some of their achievements in the 'Members' news' section as well as our very own shining star Jack Senior. A report on his recent qualification for the Open Championship at Carnoustie can be found in the 'Academy news' section of this newsletter. Let's also not forget the Three Lions who earned a Quarter-final match vs. Sweden on Saturday at 3:00pm. The nail biting penalty shoot-out was a bit hard to stomach, but exciting nonetheless and also means the Quarter-final match-up will be live on the big screens in the club this Saturday afternoon on Pro's Day! Be sure not to miss out, maybe get your golf in early to get a good seat...
Enjoy today's newsletter which also features two Comedy Corner stories, some new amazing offers from the shop and some valuable course information during this hot weather... Stay cool!

On the Course... Our juniors have lit up Lancashire this week with some amazing achievements with special mention to two of our junior girls Lucy Moss and Jess Parker. Both girls featured for Lancashire girls against Yorkshire, winning there matches in style (you can see them pictured). The girls have also qualified for a national tournament called the Abraham Trophy, an event for the best improved junior girls in the country, they will play at Lyme Regis Golf Club in August. Keep it up girls!

Our junior team took part in the Charity Cup last weekend at Leyland Golf Club, a team event pitting clubs from North Lancashire against each other in a medal format. Our team performed brilliantly taking home the best gross trophy as a team and also coming second in the nett category. Another junior girl star in Macy McKinley brought home the girls best gross with Lucas Done also winning the boys best gross trophy. Amazing stuff from the team! Well done to Lucas, Macy, Charlie, Aidan, Curtis and Daniel. Our annual Pro-Am-Am took place last Saturday, again proving to be a great event with over 120 members mixing it up with the club's best players and some of the area's top pro's. Once again we must note the effort Tony Johnson puts into this event, we love it and we appreciate his hard work; it's not easy even with the no shows. I had one in my group, but I can't name and shame Liam Doherty as to not cause him embarrassment. 36 holes in the hot temperatures was incredibly tough and I for one toiled late on, the scoring expecting to be low due to the course playing shorter didn't quite materialise with the best pro's scores coming from Gary Wolstenholme and the club's top amateur in John Wilding; they produced 36 totals of 143, brilliant scoring. The full results can be found on our Facebook page and on the club's noticeboard. The Sunday gave us our 8th Medal of the year. Low scoring in Division One and an impressive 68 - 4 = 64 was the lowest of the day, well done to Dan Entwistle, not surprised as he does have the quality in his game. Well done to Division Two winner Ralph Martinez for his incredible 76 - 13 = 63, enough to win by a couple, let's hope his new TaylorMade M4 driver fitted this week can help keep those scores low. Then in Division Three Dan Kendall massively produced the goods with an 81 - 19 = 62 dropping him down to 16. Dan has put this down to his Callaway Fusion driver and fairway, both changing his game in the past six months! Full results again can be found on the main club noticeboard.

Comedy Corner Comedy One - Scott Lee, Heysham golfer, handicap two. Scott may have lost it somewhat when he missed a short putt on the 17th proceeding to smash his ball off the green down to near the 14th green, after few whacks back and a few more putts followed by a bending of his putter round his bag he walked off with an 11. I was told this story so it may need tweaking, but I love it! Scott NR'd by the way... Comedy Two - A lovely Yorkshire lad new to the game, always smiling and late on Sunday he struck his 18th tee shot rather badly, almost through his legs and on to the 14th green. Just look at that face, the epitome of a Heysham member. |

Open Qualifying It was a great day yesterday as our very own Jack Senior qualified again for the Open Championship at Carnoustie after finishing tied second at St. Annes Old Links Golf Club. Jack finding one of only three spots on an incredibly hot day was some achievement, a course which does suit his game and one he feels comfortable on. He had rounds of 68 and 66 finishing only behind fellow Lancashire lad James Robinson. Well done to all the Heysham members that followed round and especially to the big man himself for awesome scoring. A special mention to his coach and above all puts in some hard work Ryan. They all will be flying the Heysham flag in Scotland in two weeks’ time. |

The past few months have seen us talk a lot about the importance of using clubs that are suited to your game because, ultimately, they’re going to give you the most help when out on the course. One piece of equipment we haven’t touched on yet, which needs just as much attention, is your putter. |
How do you narrow down the options? If you come by the shop to buy a new putter, you’ll be faced with an array of styles. From different head shapes and alignment guides, to various lengths and grip types. So how do you know which one will help you hole more putts? There are some trends you can look to. Larger mallet putters like this TaylorMade Spider Tour Red tend to suit golfers with straighter putting arcs, while they are also a little more stable to help with shorter putts. In comparison, blades like this TaylorMade Black Copper Collection Soto can usually help those of you with more of an arcing stroke, while some players also prefer the feel a blade offers. Of course, the most sensible thing to do is come to us once you have a shortlist and we can advise you on which model will best suit your stroke type and take you through a full custom fitting. Just imagine how many shots you could drop by holing more putts.
