One for the history books
The 2018 Blenkinsop is now in the history books, a solid win for an experienced Lancaster side against Morecambe's team and our young collection of boys and girls.
Our team made us very proud on the day, a team consisting of 14-year olds and our oldest being the Dones’ at 16 meant valuable experience for future years. Next year we expect a very competitive qualifying period with some other emerging youngsters coming through the ranks, we can't wait!
The only thing we may see is a loss of the Done boys, Lucas shooting the best round of the day with a 69 at Morecambe in very windy conditions.

He also had to contend with some seriously misjudged pin positions as well, some of which were in places even I would've been unhappy about. Still for our team we move on, experience gained and a great day for our team, making the club very proud indeed. If you would like to get your children involved in golf you can bring them along on a Saturday to our Bambino sessions with Paul, or book individual sessions with Trevor. Joining the Golf Club is as low as £25 for a full year. Visit our website for more information on junior golf. |
This week sees the launch of our Ryan Done Winter Programme, a limited number pack of lessons aimed at the serious golfer looking to boost their game through the winter. In the future you will also see a winter package from Trevor aimed at golfers looking to lower their handicaps, or keep their swing going over winter. Watch out for them in the coming weeks.
Picture of the week
Great to welcome Tim Fletcher and his mates on Monday to The Swing Lounge with this great picture taken afterwards. Happy Birthday Tim!

It's your last chance
On Sunday we had the penultimate Medal of the year, a usually full event but one that was slightly dampened by our usual British August Climate. That being said there was still some solid golf on show, Rob Smith with the days lowest gross of 70, the ginger scratch golfer is still yet to birdie the third hole this year. Division One however was won by Chris McKinley, a solid 77 - 10 - 67 means he now gets to single figures, great work! His friend John Morley also won in Division Two, an 80 - 12 - 68 meant he drops to 11, the only golfer from his division to break par. Andy Tomlinson did the same, his 89 - 20 - 69 the only score under par for his Division Three win, his lessons with myself finally paying off! Our last medal is this Sunday, the last chance to qualify for the Jack Firth Trophy. |
Only six weeks to go
Some of you may know myself and the Captain, Gav Thomson are taking part in the Manchester Half Marathon on Sunday, 14 October. We are now in the final weeks of training with only six weeks to go. This week’s run on the plan said three runs two x 6k and an 8k. With Gav on the injury bench I ditched the running and instead chose a steady Bank Holiday stroll, well actually the Yorkshire three peaks, just a steady 26 miler in mud, rain and wind. It was tough and I have the blisters to prove it. Even worse my GPS watch battery died after two hours. I will keep you updated on your final weeks of training, meanwhile if you’d like to sponsor us please see me in the Pro Shop or catch up with the Captain. Our chosen charities are Cancer Research UK and the British Red Cross.

How many times do you find yourself lining up your shot and thinking "this is about an 8-iron from here to the pin", only to find that you end up 10-15 yards short of the hole? Being able to utilise accurate yardages is a key step to taking your game to the next level, which is why we'd recommend using a GPS device to ensure you always know exactly how far you have left to the pin. |
| Information at a glance
If you are yet to make the step into GPS assistance, why not try out the Garmin Approach S20? The watch's high-sensitivity GPS receiver gives you the distance data you need to fire away with confidence and hone in on the pin. You'll have distance to the front, back and middle of the green, as well as hazards, doglegs and layups. |
