Welcome to the last March Newsletter as the holy grail of April approaches after a looooong winter; we've got a lot in store for you this season, so dust off those clubs and come on back, you've got an extra hours golfing time coming for you this weekend.
Today's newsletter will feature a collection of coaching stories from this week, a special mention of the bestselling driver of 2019 so far and a look at some of our special shop deals continuing into next week.
In the past week we welcomed the new Captain, Lady Captain and Junior Captain into office joining President Baz Simcox. Carl Sadler, Gill Gardner and Curtis Done all drove into office at the start of our Drive-In shotgun competition last Saturday.

Thanks to all those who attended and played in the fun event, whilst helping to raise money for the 2019 Captains Charities. Special mention must go to Lucas Done, trying to take the shine away from Curtis; he had a hole-in-one on the 16th hole. Once again, good luck to everyone above for 2019. Lastly, well done to Steve Carter he was the lucky winner of the Motocaddy M3 Pro trolley, He can't collect yet as he is on holiday in Dubai! How the better half live.
Enjoy the rest of this week's read. |
Spring Medal
Sunday saw our Opening 2019 competition; the Spring Medal. Despite it being an early competition, meaning it to always be a non-qualifier, there was still some strong scores. The tough conditions meant a tonne of golfers didn't beat their handicap. Ronnie Webster with a strong 76-9-67 was enough to win Division One, with Dave Hutchinson scoring lowest gross with 72 only just missing out on a card playoff. In Division Two Chris Burgess was top of only three golfers to break their handicap with 80-12-68, he just edged out Phil Osborne and Pete Savage. Only one golfer beat par in Division Three, the left hander Darren Braithwaite scoring 91-22-69; I think we will see his handicap tumble this year. Jason Barlow and Paul Kelly completed the Top 3. This week we have the Trimpell Tassie, the first official board competition and first pairs event of the season. Good Luck to everyone taking part.

Coaching Corner with Ryan Done
Well, what a hectic week since coming back from sunny Portugal, my lesson diary is filling up thick and fast! My Winter Package lessons are now coming to the end of the sessions and I’m spending time with them on the course looking at game plans/management, It’s important to have a good game plan and to be able to adapt when the weather changes etc (notable wind speeds). Get yourself booked in for a session on the course you will learn a lot I assure you.
|
I had a great weekend with the CAP Skills Opening on Saturday, with three representatives from Heysham GC Juniors, Charlie, Aidan and Tom, well done boys.
I've also been fitting a lot this last week testing all the latest equipment with customers and if I'm being honest the increase in golf equipment is a little bit “steep” , but it really is amazingly friendly/easy to use you will undoubtedly hit a lot more fairways and longer than your current driver.
Here’s some figures from lefty Ray Adams testing the new F9 Cobra driver, incredible really. Smash basically means efficiency, and you can’t get better than this.1.52 is literally incredible(Tour pros can’t achieve this). |

Hole in One lesson
Special mention to Dan Hodges, who this week had a playing lesson with Paul and not only managed to beat him to scratch but also scored an ACE at the Par 3 5th Hole.
Awesome work by Dan, who only recently was fitted for some Titleist AP3 irons. A good combination of lessons and fitted clubs means we are expecting big things from the plumber in 2019.

Chipping is king
Must mention one lesson I did this week for the simplicity of it, Martin came for an hour Short Game MOT, this at only a cost of only £25 is an absolute bargain and he came with the notion that his chipping was one dimensional. True; it was, Martin was relying on a very wristy, higher lofted wedge shot from around the green.
|
The cool thing is this shot is often what golfers fear, so to see someone play it well was great to see. We simplified things, this gives Martin more shot options, not to mention the ability to change club depending on the scenario.
A couple set-up changes relating to ball position and alignment helped us create a 'straighter', less wrist driven backswing, through the ball Martin was then tasked with rotating the spine through the shot always trying to keep the club face in line with the hands. It worked a treat, better strikes and a more consistent ball flight; especially considering it was blowing a gale and pouring it down. Martin now needs to do what he hasn't done enough....practice! |

One month to go!
With one month to go I have two more long runs planned with a 20 miler this Friday. One of the hardest parts of training is finding new routes as it can become boring following the same routes, we are lucky to have the lovely Morecambe prom so close, and I've seen some spectacular sun rises on this week’s training runs, which included the dreaded intervals, it's not all about long distance.
If anyone would like to sponsor me for Parkinson's UK please follow the following link HERE. |
It's certainly a lot easier to play better golf when you feel good about yourself and your game. Whilst you might not always be 'on-the-money' with your swing, you certainly have no excuse when it comes to what you're wearing. |
Glenmuir's latest collection for spring/summer '19 oozes style and is, without doubt, one of their best clothing ranges to date. The main thing we love this year is Glenmuir's combination of striking colours and subtle styling, enabling them to create a fashionable range that wouldn't look out of place off the course either.
We've got Glenmuir's fantastic collection displayed in-store for you to try on, as well as some beautiful club-crested garments too.
