The club recently launched a new membership aimed at creating new golfers, bringing back old ones and giving us a chance to welcome people into Heysham Golf Club. So far, this has been successful and because of this we are holding a new Members Evening tomorrow night from 7:00pm. I start this newsletter mentioning this, because I want to ask people to join us, new and old for a beer because even though this night is aimed the new golfers; there is still always plenty to learn about being a member of this great club.

In the day, me and Ryan will be holding our annual Tri-Golf Competition at Salt Ayre; being one of 15 different sports available and with over 20 schools from the local area taking part. It's usually a great day, look out for our pictures on Facebook. We love teaching in groups, of which we held our second Short Game Masterclass of 2019 last Saturday; a big thank you to all those that took part and again, twice in a row, we were lucky with the weather.
You may not see me over the weekend as I will be camping in North Wales. Now, I may not look like a bit of a camper but if there is beer and a BBQ involved; I'm there! I will stick some pictures again on our Facebook page as I look to ascend to the top of Snowdon. If you need to book a lesson with me whilst I am away, you can see Linda or Paul in the shop or remember you can book online at www.clubfitgolf.co.uk.
This Sunday we are holding our FootJoy MAY MEDAL event. Where you can get a FREE FootJoy glove worth up to £20. It's Simple, buy ANY FootJoy glove on Sunday and if you beat you handicap to the days Standard Scratch; We will give you another glove FREE! Will you take on the challenge? |

The perfect set up
Last weekend was a double header with the Albert Barrett Qualifier and then the International & Hill Cup. Great scores from Andy Taylor, Ray Adams and also Tony Wilkinson with an excellent 68 giving him the top spot in Division Two. Eight from both divisions will qualify for the matchplay portion of the event. Sunday was again full of great scores, especially Division One where the scoring was brilliant. Tony Johnson fired a 66 gross to win the International with 42 points, beating out great scores from Daniel Entwistle (41) and Mal Savage (40). In the Hill Cup (for handicaps 15+), Steve Hamblett romped home with a fine total of 40 points. Steve recently changed his bag over for the new TaylorMade M6 irons and hybrids; quality bag set up (which you can see below). That top selling Cobra F9 sneaked in though.

Coaching and fitting news |
Keep your concentration
This week Ryan worked with our Clayton Team Qualifiers as they look to help the team be as strong as possible. They worked on their short game, particularly putting drills and also a look at how to increase their skills in the bunker. Most importantly Ryan showed them the importance of the pre-shot routine, timing and concentration. He did this using the Focus Headband, a band connected to an iPad that measures your concentration levels. It shows if you can help zone out and concentrate on ONLY the task at the hand, which should be your target. Interested? You can book a Psychology Focus Lesson with Ryan for a NEW introductory price of £35.00 for a one-hour session. This session will help you understand and build your routine before your golf shots. Book online or call the shop to get your session booked in.

Most overlooked club in the bag? |
Thankfully, the penny has dropped when it comes to the importance of getting custom fitted for a new driver or set of irons. Unfortunately, we still see the vast majority of golfers overlook this process when it comes to their fairway woods, but why? |
| How often do you use yours? |
|
“I wouldn’t use it often enough” “It's too expensive” “It's not necessary” Yeah, I guess if you’re not concerned with shooting lower scores and maximising your potential then a custom fitted fairway wood isn’t that important. However, if improving your game is something you want to achieve, then having a full set of custom fitted clubs is vital, especially when it comes to gapping between your driver and irons.

PING G410 fairway woods One option that we'll certainly get you to try is this beauty from PING. A combination of its tungsten weight, forged face and low centre of gravity produce a fairway wood that is easy to launch and that flies miles, too.
So, let’s get you booked in for a custom fitting with a member of the team and harness your potential with the most overlooked club in the bag. |
