What an absolutely incredible day yesterday was for scoring in the 7th Medal; an amazing 32 golfers managing to beat Par. You can find out about who the winners were, some success stories from yesterday with our coaching team, especially the main man Ryan who coached someone out of the shanks and into a 67 nett.
However, there is always a loser when there are plenty of winners and that loser is Jack Cowell. He scored superbly for the front nine before he started to panic succumbing to dropping several shots in the middle of the back nine, but was he prepared for his last hole?
|
As featured on the social media pages of 'The Club' Jack managed a superb 14 on the last hole, but with nett adjustment, he was still going to make his buffer. That is until the aforementioned superb scoring knocked the standard scratch down to 70; Jack now being infamous with golfers of the UK and also facing another .1 to his collection. |

I hope you are all ready for the 2019 Centenary Pro-Am-Am. The weather is due to be beautiful; the golf course is absolutely stunning at the moment (see the pics below) and we've also got the area’s best players teeing it up as your Pro's (and Me).
We can't wait to host you all, but make sure you know what tee you're off and check in nice and early for your rounds to help the Professional Shop deal with the footfall caused by a shotgun start. Have a great weekend and enjoy this week’s read. |

What are you waiting for?
It was the annual Lady Captains Day on Tuesday and the weather luckily managed to hold out for the day giving our lovely ladies the pleasure of 27 holes of golf. A big well done to Sue Jones, who was this year’s Champion holding off some tough competition from the other ladies. Well done to Gill, our Lady Captain for hosting the day and look out for some pictures in the future as our Club Photographer was there to catch the ladies at their best. The day was followed by some food and just a few drinks (probably not). Keep it up ladies.
There was some outrageous scoring in the 7th medal on Wednesday leading to some serious handicap changes; however, the biggest news except Jack Cowell's 14 in our eyes, was Ian Gardner's 65. Not only is it impressive, but he managed it with a brand-new set of PING G700 custom fit irons direct from the studio with Ryan. We can give you no further proof than Ian shooting 65 with some new clubs, so if you haven't upgraded after quite a few years (like Ian), then what are you waiting for. Awesome Ian! The Captain, Carl Sadler was the victor in Division One with a 71-5-66, awesome the wee man. In Division Three, my partner for Saturday Jeff Hodgkiss picked up the win, docking his bloody handicap! An impressive 66 nett was enough to sneak past Jack Hollings on a card playoff. A big well done to all those who broke par, incredible work everyone.

A word from the Coach by Ryan Done This week has been a bit MAD! It started with me taking Lucas down to the ESGA Final at Sherwood Forest GC; what a course by the way. His superb play, unfortunately, didn't quite reflect in his scoring and some of the golf by all playing was truly brilliant on a tough course. However, he did well getting there and hopefully, there are more days like that to come. His brother, on the same day, was over in Carl Brown country; Burnley GC, playing in a Lancashire Schools event. 'The Rat' was excellent, his 71 gross was the winning score on the day. He travelled with Morecambe member Rory Briggs, who picked up Best Nett with 61. Well done Boys. |

Also, in the same week, it was a great achievement by Tom Winn, a superb golfer and great guy who I've worked with for years now as he qualified for the Final Stage of The Open Qualifying. A lot of players I coach narrowly missed out, and some with great scores such as Chris Carney; shooting under Par but still ending up just the other side of the cut. Tom will join Jack Senior at St. Annes Old Links on Tuesday, 36 holes to play their best and try to make The Open. Everyone is welcome, so it would be good to see some local support there.
Lastly, I thought I would share a couple of messages I received off some players this week. These are what truly make my job a dream, helping golfers from Heysham, and other local golf clubs, achieve results.
''Nice Little 82 for 63 in today’s competition, Thanks Coach'' - Morecambe GC Member playing an event there. ''I know you will get murdered by golf freaks on a daily basis, but I just wanted to say Thanks as I've realised what has only been a dream since I started golf 7 years ago at the age of 35. Got to Single Figures. Cheers Ryan!'' My greatest lesson this week has been with Kev Greig, what a legend. He has struggled with his game and booked in for a simple 30-minute session with me yesterday. He has had the dreaded sh*nks and couldn't cure them. So, 30 minutes later and a simple few drills to help Kev left happy. He then went on to have a 67 nett the SAME DAY in the 7th Medal. I think he may kiss me! Awesome Kev! We love to hear your success stories; I love the texts and we like to feature stories like these across our social media pages. So, if you would like to share please message your coach whether it be Ryan, Trevor or Paul. We will feature more of these in the future. But for now, if you haven't booked in a lesson yet; why not?
