On Sunday Ryan will drive off into the Northern Ireland sunset as he experiences The Open from inside the ropes for the third time in four years with the big man Jack Senior. |
On behalf of us at Clubfit Golf, I would like to wish Jack the best and here's to hoping him and his team can get him to an Open weekend. Such a difficult task, but one he is clearly capable of. His brother Joe will be on the bag this week as well! You can find out more about how Ryan is getting to Northern Ireland and how you can follow him in today's newsletter. Plus, a look at some great Heysham Golf Club success stories. But first… Last Saturday we held our annual Professional Trophy Competition, a board comp in its own right but also a day for our Team to control; so that we did, by adding a 9-hole booze-up event in the evening. Firstly, a big thank you to all those that took part either in the main event, or the drinking event in the evening. We hope you all had a great day, and our continued success at Heysham is down to your support. There always has to be winners on a day and there was some silly scoring in the Drinking event leading to gateway member Gaz Owen winning; 30 points!
The main event, however, was won by the Wet Bandits Matty Hartley and Dan Hodges with a solid 44-point total. Finally, up in gold boys. You can go to Cambodia now Matty. Full prize results can be found on our Facebook page here. |

The future of our game
First of all, can we wish our Seniors Team the best of luck for today(Friday) in the Seniors Triangular held this year at Morecambe Golf Club. Our fighting boys in blue this year will be Steve carter, Ray Adams, Tommy Shields, Steve Patten, Ged McAllister, Tony Wilkinson and Ian Gardner.
In another team event, the Diamond Trophy will take place on Saturday, 20 July. Congratulations to our qualifying Team of Paul Kelly, Shaun Gorry, Mick Murray, Tony Ashton, Dave Tann and Roger Grannell; supported by Vice Captain John Corless and Captain John Hayes. The Diamond Trophy celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year, launched way back in 1994 by Heysham member Joe Blease. Let's hope for some great scores, great weather and a Heysham win.

Heysham members Jess Parker and Lucy Moss took part in the England Schools Team Championships this week at Woodhall Spa. The girls were representing Queen Elizabeth High School (and of course Heysham Golf Club) and once again managed to excel. The duo finishing 7th with 73 points between them, including a superb 40-point round from Lucy.
Absolute class from both girls, we are so lucky to have these at our club and hopefully they can both continue to improve in the future.

A word with the Coach Max and Paddy’s 'Road to Nowhere'
Ryan's house will be on wheels for the week starting this Sunday night. He will drive over to Northern Ireland to help Jack Senior in The Open; luckily, he's getting a hand from HGC member Gav Beckett. You can follow daily updates for The Open from our Facebook page, where we will be posting Ryan's 'Open Blog' from his travels. For now, here is a word with the coach.
This week has been a busy one, mainly due to trying to sort myself for The Open at Royal Portrush. Firstly, a big thank you to Steve Hall at Lancaster Motorhomes & Caravans, he has lent me the Big RTV as seen above; it's absolutely amazing. If you want one yourself, make sure you visit these guys and tell them we sent you.
|
Also, a big thank you to Adrian Colquitt of Peel Ports; he has helped me get my transport across the Irish sea. He has been a massive help, and Peel Ports also proudly support our Junior Section.
On the range this week in fittings, I must mention member Mick Croft; he found a 23-yard gain with a new Callaway Epic Flash driver up against his own driver. Top work by Mick. It was also great to catch up with PGA Professional Simon Lucas and work on his short game this week whilst also introducing him to the Focus Band to help with his concentration. Simon has done well over the past few years on the North Region.
Also, a big shout out to Andy Barwick from Lansil GC who has lost three shots off his handicap in five competitions recently after coming for just one lesson.
Who's going to be the ‘Top Done’ in the household, there is now only 0.1 between them in handicaps. Brilliant! You will hear more of me from Portrush.
