Amongst the sunshine and storms this week at Heysham there were some success stories, a winning team, a handicap drop, a medal win and more importantly that I made it to 32 (I know I look 22). Today is my birthday, so consider this my gift back to all those who wished me a happy birthday. It's not always fun and games being a golf professional but I'm not sure I ever imagined typing out this newsletter on my special day; a few beers later will sort that out, although the BBQ has been nixed due to the incoming thunderstorms. So, I will focus at the job in hand, bringing the latest out of Heysham with some news our close to home success, a look at Ryan's visit to The Open and the Seniors British Open (he does get around). PLUS, a quickfire Sale coming up THIS WEEKEND for you ladies out there.

The trophy returns to Heysham
Let's start off with our Triumphant Diamond Trophy Team last week winning the trophy back at HGC with a dominant performance. The Rabbits Team representing Heysham were Mick Murray, Roger Grannell, Paul Kelly, Shaun Gorry, Nick Gilmour, Tony Ashton and Dave Tann. Shaun Gorry top-scored with a solid 40 points, a sign of things to come. John Hayes Rabbits Captain was on hand to cheer the boys home on the Trophy's 25th Anniversary. A big thank you to the Club and Captain for providing refreshments and helping on the day; Let's hope the boys can win it again next year.

More team success now with our Ladies Section. The Ladies were crowned group winners in the LLCGA Bronze Shield-North West Region. As winners of Group 3, the team will now take part in a round-robin with Shaw Hill & Preston to decide who will represent the North West at the Lancashire Team Finals in September. The is the first time Heysham have won their group, so a big well done to their Captain Anita Russell and all those that have taken part in 2019. Lastly, special mention to some amazing scores in yesterday’s 12th Medal. Some great scoring from Course Manager Dave Hutchinson who won Division One with a 65, among 12 people who broke par. Division Two was where it was truly at though, a 61 nett from 17 handicapper Shaun Gorry amazingly won by only a shot to Dan Hodges. Both of these players benefiting hugely from new clubs, Shaun putting a new fitted Titleist TS2 Driver in the bag and Dan, matching up his irons to some new gapped wedges. Excellent work from the boys who have put hard work in over the winter with lessons, with Paul and most recently I gave Shaun a quick lesson which has resulted in an upturn in form Division Three was also solid with Colin Harris enjoying a 66 to win, just nudging out Jeff Hodgkiss on a card playoff. Special mention also to Stu Raistrick whose handicap has now dropped to 18; great work with me over a series of lessons. |
Course Ranger
For those that aren't aware, we now have a Course Ranger acting on behalf of the Club over several nights a week. He will be checking bag tags and golfers on their way round to make sure those playing after the Professional Shop has shut have paid. PLEASE make sure you have your blue bag tags if you are a member and if you do not have one, you can grab one from the Office. Also, please do not feel put out if you are asked to prove your membership or payment; it's nothing personal. Speaking of the golf course; we have a new sign in place, we feel it speaks for itself. Please look after YOUR golf course. |

The experience will increase his hunger
Ryan has had a couple of busy weeks, working with Jack in The Open at Royal Portrush and then working with Gary Wolstenholme and Trevor Foster at Royal Lytham on Tuesday. Firstly, Jack Senior was desperately unlucky to miss the cut last week; a few shots slipping by at the end of round one cost him dearly and hopefully, this experience will increase his hunger as he makes steps towards getting his full Tour card. I hope you all enjoyed the daily update from Ryan over on our Facebook page, if you don't yet follow us make sure you click here and like our page for daily updates and offers.
Ryan then moved onto the Seniors working at Royal Lytham on Tuesday, the place in 1987 where he caddied for Amateur Trevor Foster at the tender age of 13. Ryan, now working as his coach, was subject to a bit off fanfare, appearing in the papers due to his young age. Trevor has done amazing in the past couple of years and it's great to see the partnership in full force; Ryan was even on his bag for a practice round after working with him on the range. |
Good Luck to both Gary and Trevor this week at Lytham; hopefully no more of that weather that booted them off the course yesterday. Closer to home a couple of mentions for fittings this week, one being Gateway member Iain who comes from bonny Scotland. The cheeky chappy fitted up with some Cobra F-Max Superlite Irons to help his game in its early stages. These irons are just £429 for six irons, so not too bad price wise and VERY forgiving. Also, Glyn Scotson picking up his new Cobra F9 driver, the left-hander picking up 8mph ball speed in a change from his G15 driver. Good luck with it Glyn. If you would like to book a lesson or fitting then get in touch. Call us on 01524 852000 or click here to book today. |
