#Theclubtalks
The biggest killer in men under 45 in this country is suicide. There can be a number of factors, and with my partner working in mental health I am well aware of the lifelong factors that can lead to this worrying statistic. But one thing is for certain, men struggle to talk!
Whether they suffer from depression, or they are just feeling down, Men do not open up enough to work on their mental health. This is where Golf comes in. In conjunction with the PGA, #theclub has launched 'The club talks' initiative aimed at boosting mental health through golf. I have signed up as an ambassador to this programme and Heysham Golf Club will be taking part in small events in the future to help get golfer socialising and talking about their lives.
Look out for these events in the future, search for #theclubtalks online and let's smash the taboo of males talking about their feelings with the help of the game we all love.

Junior presentation evening
Last Friday we held our 2019 Junior Presentation Evening, a brilliant evening where we crowned our 2019 winners. The boys & girls have made us proud continually throughout the year, for example, Curtis Done is even playing on Monday 28th October at Close House in the British Junior Masters, which I believe will be shown on Sky Sports! So, a big Thank You to our awesome Juniors, to their parents as well for supporting us, them and the golf club!
Roll on 2020! |
Course Update The golf course has taken a large amount of rain as we know, but there is light at the end of the tunnel with some decent weather due next week, and as I type this the Sun is actually out! But, we still have to take care of our golf course so please take the Course Managers advice on carrying clubs.
It's very simple. IF you cannot play a round of golf without using your trolley, then you are currently permitted to do so. What we ask, as a club, is that our members can try to carry their clubs if they are physically fit & able. This allows us to keep trolleys active for the members who really need it!
The club has suggested just carrying 9 clubs to help take more weight out of your bags and lighten your bags! This isn't to be awkward, it's to help the course and for those who play in the Winter League, it will become an included rule. During winter the course will shorten, and a winter card will be introduced. This will mean you will actually use fewer clubs than in the summer, so it would make sense to do so anyway. However, if you would like advice on what clubs to take out then please see one of our Professional Team in the Shop. |

A word from the coach
We've had a great week getting stuck into the Winter Packages (you can still sign up for one) with some of my students. We have done a bit of goal setting, putting objectives in place on how they can improve in the winter period. It's a long winter ahead!
The weather has been a pain but it's great to see players still pushing themselves to practice and keeping on their toes using our facilities here and also the technology we have on offer from GASP video Analysis, SAM Putt Lab, The Swing Lounge and Focus Head Band. I'd like to wish Jack Senior the best of luck in China over the next 2 weeks in his quest for European Tour Stardom. He's currently sitting 4th in the Order of Merit with only 3 events to play which includes the Tour Final in Mallorca where me & Mrs D will be attending!

Away from the Tour scene, I've had a few success this week with some awesome fittings with new Gateway member Luke, Roger visiting from Bentham who I fitted up for some Cobra F9 graphite irons and new member Danny Watts who we've fitted for a full bag. The last piece of the puzzle was his Stroke Lab V-Line CS putter which came out top when we put several to the test on our SAM Putt Lab. This piece of kit is perfect for winter as we house it indoors, so be sure to get involved and improve your putting over the winter period. Lastly, a big well done to Ben Slinger who is a current member at Kirkby Lonsdale. Ben has practised hard and has achieved this position in his swing. Class Ben! |

Since the game began in the 15th century, there is one thing that has never changed – the ball being the only piece of equipment used on every shot. Despite this, it still gets a raw deal with some golfers viewing it as less important than the clubs used to hit it. So, we decided to take a look back and see how modern golf balls compare to those of yesteryear. |
| Callaway's Chrome Soft golf ball |
|
In the beginning Feathery balls reigned supreme for over 200 years in the early days of golf, but even they are relatively new compared to the original hairy balls (guess what they were stuffed with!). It's hard to imagine what it would be like playing with those balls these days, and even the later-developed Gutty and Haskell balls left golfers with little-to-no room for error.
|
Where we are today 100 years ago the thought of using a state-of-the-art Graphene-infused Dual Soft Core to minimise driver spin/maximise distance would have been unthinkable (and probably impossible) – but that is exactly what features in Callaway's Chrome Soft. Snazzy Truvis styling is something the Chrome Softs offer too for those golfers after something a little bit different. Why not grab a dozen or two and leave the Gutty at home? |
