We hope you've had a great week so far as we welcome you to our weekly Newsletter, this week bringing you an update from the golf course, a reminder of our Winter Lesson Packages PLUS you can find out how to join our 2020-2021 Indoor Winter League. We also say goodbye to the Morecambe Bay Golf Festival for another year and look forward to the Winter ahead at Heysham GC with our Winter Open Schedule!

Out there in the world we also have the US Open hitting our screens this week from Winged foot, the course where in 2006, Colin Montgomorie blew his biggest Major chance with a double bogey on the last hole; he should've listened to his caddie! Dropping that into this newsletter is important, because sometimes simple course management errors; everyone can benefit by a simple 1-hour course lesson which is included in one of our Winter lesson Packages!

Swing Lounge news

The Swing Lounge Winter League Returns 

Our Popular Swing Lounge League Returns for 2020-2021. Visit www.theswinglounge.co.uk for the information but here's a snapshot!

- 9 x 9-Hole events to be completed before 31/3/2021

- Play-Off for the Top 4 to win the official Swing Lounge Trophy

- The more entrants..the higher the Prizefund!

- Only £49 person. Pairs format. 

The League starts from 1/10/20 you can join on our Professionals Trophy Day and receive a small FREE gift!

To enter please message us below, or pop into the shop. All we need is yours and your partners name. 

** 2020 Winter League which was unfinished in March 2020 needs to be completed before 30/9/2020. There will be NO Play-Off and prizes will be awarded to the Top 4. Book your rounds in to complete them with the Pro Shop**

Course updates

The Greenstaff were hard at it this week hollow tining out on the golf course, an important part of greens maintenance. Check out the pictures below which show some of the process. Hollow Tining is important at this part of year as it allows the greens to receive air & water to their roots, to reduce the compaction as we head into the winter. That allows the greens to drain better thus reducing the chance of thatch! Much more information can be found online about Hollow Tining and it's importance!

Firstly the greens are hollow tined, taking a core out of the greens, this leaves a lot of mess! Staff & volunteers are key to sweeping all the cores away!

Top Dressing!

The greens are then top dressed, allowing feed onto the greens and into the roots! Only 1 more step to this process!

Washing it in..

Water! If we get no rain, then the sprinkler system is activated! This helps wash the feed into greens and roots!

 

Competition Round-Up

A big well done to Dennis Greaves who returned to competitive golf with a win in last Sundays Single Stableford event! His 38 points won in division 2, a great score in the windy conditions! Dave Howard managed the same great score to win in division 1 just pipping Terry Young & Adam Hutchinson to the win! Well done Dennis & Dave!
