Quite an exciting week for us here at Clubfit Golf this week as work has began on part of our Project to radically change our facilities and add some new ways to have fun playing golf to the local area. As you can see in the picture building work has started; read on to find out what is happening and learn a little bit about the build.
In between the constant building, planning and organising we held a fitting night on Wednesday evening to offer some cheap ex-demo equipment as well as savings on new gear available in the shop. Thank you to everyone that came down and purchased something on the night. Feel free to pop in and chat to myself or a staff member about how you could take advantage of some price drops as we head to the end of 2015.
Ryan also did some work this week with Jack as he looks to bounce back from his dip in form and Gary Wolstenholme also popped in for a session to tidy up a few things. Read more about that in 'A minute with the Coach' later on in the newsletter. We've also welcomed back Bob Patten into the kitchen, a past popular chef who whips up a mean Sunday dinner; these are back with a bang in the club so give them a call to get booked in on 01524 851011.
Hoover Trophy
Our members' competition this week was the pairs competition 'Hoover Trophy', not for my amusement sponsored by Dyson. Jon Sumner and Steve Shields blew away the field with a 60.2 nett score in the greensomes format. Unlucky for Ronnie Webster and his son Daniel as they performed magnificently to secure second place, on a different day they would've gone home the victors.
This week is the universally popular Trimple Tassie competition, another pairs event of which offers a chance to get your name on the board and on the trophy. Speaking of trophies the list is now up for the Gents' Prize giving, this year being held on Friday, 6 November from 7.30pm. After the success of last year I will again be MC for the evening which will conclude with the un-official awards of 2015; Jack Cowell should know a lot about them. I hope you can all make it and create a good buzz about the night, have a few laughs along the way and present our worthy winners with their trophies.
Project Clubfit
It has begun. Our project to make us the best in the area for everything golf has been simmering in the pot for what feels like a decade but now we can see our plans start to come into fruition. Footings have been dug today with the concrete soon to go in as the base of our new indoor simulator studio takes shape. This requires a dig down of around 10-12 inches creating a type of moat to build the studios foundations upon. Thanks to Adam Wilson and his team thus far for their work on the project. Once the footings have been concreted block work will commence from Newsham & Raistrick builders; good set of lads, but I may be a bit biased. Once the building is up Dave Hough and his team will begin work on the roof, Ray Adams will begin his electrical work and things will kick on from there.
For those who aren't aware this building will hold a state of the art simulator with a swing plate that allows that mat to move to create sloped lies out on the golf course. It is our aim to make this facility not only useful for golf but fun, with big screen TV, beer fridge and comfy seating our 'bunker' will be more than just a golf simulator. This building is unique and will be marketed that way to members, customers and more importantly to the general public to come have fun playing our wonderful sport. We are working on a name for this building but you can expect to see it heavily marketed in the local area, on social media and beyond. Whilst work is ongoing entrance to the shop, course and range will be made through the entrance to the side of the white garage door by the electric car points. Work will also begin to knock down the small building just next to the driving range machine; this will widen the area to walk onto the golf course from the locker rooms. For more information visit our Project page, or come chat to me in the shop where I can answer your questions.
Night Golf - Friday, 30 October from 6.20pm
We still have spaces in our night golf competition being held Friday, 30 October and all you have to do to book is give me a bell in the shop. At a cost of £25 per person you get your golf, tea and prizes all paid for and if you fancy a few beers then you will be in for a great night. Get involved, wear what you like, drink what you like and have some fun in the dark; no-one will be able to see what's going on anyway!

A minute with the Coach
I've just this minute got off the phone with the Bear who has been playing in a one day event at St. Annes Old Links, (great course) on the 1836 Tour. His -6 round of 66 actually gave him a tied victory and more importantly a huge boost in confidence ahead of some big weeks in China and Oman. I did a bit of work with Jack this week to keep tidying up his game, with a bit of work done to his pitching. Over the past couple of months we have gradually weakened off his grip and produce a slightly deeper backswing to cure some of the erratic shots he was facing. I would say he is swinging it as steady as ever showed by the 350+ drive he pulled out the bag this week.
On the opposite end of his career Gary Wolstenholme has enjoyed a steady season on the European Seniors' Tour but I feel for Gary as there isn't enough events to play in. He came down for a touch up this week and despite not getting near Jack's power levels I think he would give up a few yards to achieve some of Gary's dispersion numbers, check out the pictures - hit it straighter by the way!
