I think now is a good time to remind our customers that the clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday morning. Lets not have any let downs for Sunday in the Captain's and President's Challenge event. For those who aren't aware this competition begins our Winter League schedule, 21 weeks of winter golf; it is the clubs biggest event in a lot of people's eyes! Simply beat the Captain's and President's score this Sunday to bag yourself a prize. You're not up against much... (Sorry Foz and Brash).

You will also see a bit of work going on Saturday so if you're around say hi to Newsham and Raistrick world renowned building team, more about what they're up to later. Dave and his team have been doing a lot of work this week on the project but you may also see a few minor alterations on the golf course. One main added item is a new winter green on the 11th, definitely needed for the wet winter months when real greens aren't in use. Trimpell Tasssie

Last Sunday we held the last board competition of 2015 in the form of the pairs' bogey event the 'Trimpell Tassie'. Often referred to as the ugly sister of board competitions at Heysham it's strange bogey format has often been unpopular with the members but this year 65 pairs took part in the event. The white tee's now go away for the winter but they saw two worthy winners in Josh Corless and his partner Joe Cadwell. Josh, a Clayton Trophy Team member, guided his ball round in 63 shots duly giving the team a boost and a big reason to reach their +10 bogey total. A three shot victory is a tough ask in this format and the pairing of Josh and Joe proved to be effective. Joe can be proud of carrying Josh round, supplying him with fluids, snacks and occasional advice on which way the wind blew. He can also be proud of a few nett birdies to bolster the score. It is a pleasure to see Mr Cadwell winning a board competition as he has struggled with his game immensely in the past two years, gambling problems, criminal records and more have led Joe to nearly quitting golf but a return to form, including shaking his 'Joe 90' tag away has proved golf can really help someones state of mind. Congratulations to our Trimpell Tassie Champions of 2015, Josh Corless and Joseph Cadwell.

 

Project Clubfit

We've even added a hashtag for it! Big updates this week on Project Clubfit as Dave and his team have removed our current chipping green from its position at Heysham. Check out the before and after pictures to see the difference in a few days or some graft, JCB's and a couple of diggers! The turf used from the chipping green is now on the 11th as a new winter green with the earth removed used to build up the pitching green now placed at the far end of the current short game area. This earth will be sculpted to be turned into a huge astroturf pitching green, for use in all weather and giving you the same reactions as a normal green.

Check out the picture you can see the size of the task, it really is amazing. The earth will settle for a while before any more work is done; in the meantime the now flattened area of our old chipping green will be turfed over. On our simulator room work will begin on the build this weekend as the builders (father Newsh) knock it up to ground level ready for the flooring. The footings are cemented in and we took the extra step of knocking down a small storage room to create a bit of extra space to walk to the course once building is complete. The whole area around the building will welcome new flooring as well to tidy up the entrance to the course and pro shop.

Men's Prize Giving Dinner

Friday, 6 November is our annual Men's Prize giving dinner. Tickets are £15 per person including a three course meal and I will be your MC for the evening. Expect a lot of laughs on this awesome night. The sheet is in the locker room to book your table!

 

A minute with the Coach 

I hope Egypt serve Carling, me, Mrs D and the boys are going to unwind next Tuesday for a week off before I kick into my busy winter schedule. My winter packages are usually very popular and I plan to announce a special one off deal for those wanting to keep themselves in shape for next summer.

One pupil of mine I hope will be working hard over winter is Simon Robinson who has set an achievable target of getting his place back in the county side. Beany has bags of ability and with a bit of graft he will be there. Another member I must mention is Paul Hodgson, now hitting a lovely controlled draw after being at rock bottom with his game a few weeks ago. He has bought a Cobra Fly-Z + recently, a great driver and should make a massive difference to his game.
