Today is officially Black Friday as huge retailers put on special promotions to entice the public into spontaneous purchases as we head into an already costly festive season. Whilst we have also produced some offers (listed in this newsletter) that you may have seen, it isn't a very local business friendly kind of weekend. I only ask of you to try support your local businesses, whether it's a local butcher, baker, builder or even for sporting goods. I try my best to buy locally when I can and you may find that prices can be just the same as the big retailing juggernauts which dominate Christmas sales. So when you are asking your loved ones for any golfing gifts this Christmas please point them our way, not only can they win some spa treatments at the Midland Hotel for doing so but they will also get a first class customer service. Project Clubfit
I can feel the excitement building as our project into becoming the best equipped golf club for miles gathers pace. This week has seen work on the roof commence with our simulator room also getting a new door in the process, thanks to Greg Anderson for installing it. Newsham and Raistrick have finished their work, big thanks to them two, they are impressive to watch work and if you do need any extension or building work get in touch. The steel and joists are in on the roof with the work to be fully completed in the coming week, but for now it allows us to start on the electrics. Gary from Golfzon (our simulator company) will be visiting us today to give us the information on where to house electrical points and also to start looking at installing the simulator itself; hopefully something that will be happen just before Christmas. We are still intending to have the building open in early 2016 should everything go to plan.
Over on the short game areas the new AstroTurf pitching green has been adjusted to allow a shallower fringe area around the right hand side of the green. The chipping green has had irrigation pipes installed for the sprinkler system and the area has been prepared for turf; that will happen in early 2016. The short game academy will hopefully be open by April and we have some exciting plans including a partnership with a big golf company; it is kind of a big deal.
Upcoming Events
Heysham has some fun events coming up as we head towards Christmas. Here's what's ahead at HGC:
Children's Christmas Party - Saturday, 12 December from 2pm. Come and join us for an afternoon of magic, entertainment, games and dancing with Trevor Cooke. Junior members, members' children and grandchildren are all welcome for this festive fun party. Food will be available from 3pm and even Santa will visit around 4.15pm with some pressies for the kids. This event is FREE ! All you have to do is fill out a slip behind the bar by Monday, 30 November so the elves can get the presents ready!
HGC Night of Celebration - Friday, 4 December from 8pm. Come wish Gill Gardner and deputy greenkeeper John Burrows a happy retirement as they finish in their posts at Heysham Golf Club. Everyone is welcome and there will be supper available as well as plenty of booze in the typical HGC way! For more details see bar staff or pro shop staff.

A minute with the coach...
Despite having facilities for golf in poor weather it is still a bind having to teach guys in poor conditions and these week has been consistent with the rest of November! Luckily, we are undercover so it's only the ball which gets affected by the wind and rain, plus an introduction to the cold. However, there has been some good performances this week with some of my winter programme guys, special mention to Gary Creed in particular, he has started improve his pitching and short game. He's gearing up for our Portugal trip in March!
John Wilding is playing in Spain this week in the European Junior Open at Alcaidesa Links Resort, good luck to John from myself and everyone at Heysham. He will have Matty Bargh on the bag and with his dad Adrian flapping down the side-lines. I have high hopes for John's golf in the future.
A quick note on Jack Senior as the end of his season was a bit disappointing. That being said he is digging his heels in and working hard for the next six weeks on his game as well as working hard in the gym with help from Tim Barry. Jack will be in South Africa in January to compete on the Main tour and hopefully he can kick off 2016 with a bang as he looks to secure his (deserved) full tour card.
