Course News

We are counting down the days until Spring and hopefully by the time the warmer spring weather hits, the irrigation system will be fully completed. I caught up with our course manager Dave Hutchinson in the week to speak about the system and get a small update, here is what he said:

' All the main ploughing of pipes and wires will be completed this week. The next job from here will be to install all the sprinkler heads on tee's, greens and some aprons; this is why the little blue flags have been positioned out on the course. Valves will also be installed as well then areas back filled and turfed. Considering the amount of work it takes to put in a full system like this across the golf course, it's been pleasing to see there has been very little damage made. I'm also glad there has been little disruption to the members despite our tricky British weather and the new system will be a huge benefit to the golf course for years to come.

John Wilding who is attached to Heysham Golf Club as a Professional has this week been playing in the Sunningdale Foursomes this week with his partner Ellie Gower. Ellie plays on the LET Access Tour winning his first event last October and is currently attached to Gleneagles. The duo won a very tough opening match at the foursomes event 2&1 awarding them with a match against Charley Hull & Georgia Hall in round 2.

As of writing the match is ongoing so make sure you check out the results of that encounter and follow progress of the event here . Regardless of the result it's great to see John representing Heysham well and coming up against some of golfs brightest stars!

      Competitions News

Another strong weekend in the winter league in the most beautiful weather making us all feel a yearning for spring to appear. The scoring was exceptional with a truly great score of 48 points winning. The duo of Mick Lee and Ronnie Webster were victorious by 2 shots over fellow syndicate members Darren Braithwaite & Keith Knight who fired in a 46-point total. I hope Mick's chipping had something to do with his win as he has been working hard after the lesson he had with Trevor recently.
