Our Captains Charity for 2025 is  'Fore' Get Me Not Golf, a wonderful initiative focused on supporting people with dementia. To give you a better understanding of the charity and the work we aim to accomplish, I encourage you to take a moment to watch the video link.

More from our Captain, Tim Barry:

'As part of our efforts, I plan to launch of a Dementia Café at Heysham Golf Club starting in May. This will run monthly and aims to create a safe and welcoming environment where individuals with dementia can continue to enjoy an activity they loved before their diagnosis. The project will also provide support for their carers.

Here’s the plan:

When: Once a month, for two hours in the afternoon at the club and on the practice facilities.

What: A safe environment for individuals with dementia to enjoy golf alongside volunteers.

How: Volunteers who are golfers will pair 1:1 with participants, offering guidance and encouragement to play golf at their own pace and abilities utilising our fantastic practice facilities. Carers can either join in or have tea, cake and a chat in the clubhouse.

To make this project a success, I am seeking volunteers to assist. Volunteering will require three hours of training, which I will organize. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those living with dementia and their families.

If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about this initiative, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. Your support and enthusiasm will be crucial in helping us create an inclusive and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.
